What they don't tell you about Michigan State Parks

...they charge a daily fee (for us it is $9.00 a day), even if you have a reserved campsite. The $9.00 daily fee is in addition to the campground site.

So, in order for us to stay at a Michigan State Park for 7 nights would cost an additional $63 for the week. Staying 2 weeks would cost an additional $126.

We opted for the annual pass, which was $36 in addition to the campsite fees.

We have been in upper Michigan all this week and will be in lower Michigan all next week. Having a fantastic time for sure. No regrets, what a beautiful state. Went out to Copper Harbor, Fort Wilkins State Park, and up the top of Brockway Mountain (what a mind-blowing view of Lake Superior). Been to several water falls, trails, and lots of site seeing. So, the cost is truly worth it. We are currently at Baraga State Park.

But anyone venturing to Michigan, just be aware, there is a daily charge in addition to your reserved campground charge. If staying more than 4 nights in Michigan, get the annual pass. .

Just an FYI!

So does Colorado. I think maybe Wyoming. I think it may be getting widespread as states need money.

If they would bake that fee right into the cost of the stay nobody would know the difference. Hotels do the same thing. Advertise a rate then add a whatever fee on top. Like you get something extra, not.

Michigan State Parks

We were there in the UP 2020

We bought the Yearly Pass, Enjoyed it immensely.

The Cost was not puzzling, Bought the yearly Pass, but the way the electric at the Campground was laid out?

Instead of a single stand for each site, they had four sites all going to one point?

Soo, make sure you have enough extension cords for your main power line.
Never saw anything like it?

Stayed at Tahquamenon St. Park

I know that Wisconsin, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming do this as well. But the fees, especially for non residents is much higher. Add to that non-resident fishing licenses and they make a haul.
