CO/Propane Alarm Failure(s)

We just had an odd issue on two rigs. Both of the 3230CK’s on our Alaska trip had the Propane/CO alarms fail within 24 hours of each other. Has there been a rash of 2 year old alarm’s failing? Just odd that two units, built that close together (within a week) would have failures within 24 hours.

I seem to recall our original Propane detector failed at about two years. I am pretty sure all the original detectors in these rigs never make it to their expected life span due to the contamination of the sensors in them from all the out gassing of the construction materials used. Once the rig has mostly finished out gassing, the replacement detectors last a lot longer. Why two different detectors in different rigs failed at the same time, just a big coincidence?

I think your Combo units is one made by MTI - the shelf life is usually 5 years on these units.

** Safe-T Alert units are made by MTI

The clock "Starts" the first time that 12 vdc is applied to the unit and since it is hard wired to the battery it is active even with the battery cutoff OFF.

Link to MTI FAQ section and I would give the folks a call on their 1-800 number.. The units should not have failed this soon

** My OEM one lasted 60 months and then started alarming.. its an easy swap out

Mine lasted 8 years. Getting ready to replace it with a Safe-T-Alert carbon monoxide / propane detector. Opted for the surface mount model because I currently have a surface mount unit and did not want to attempt cutting into my island and risking drawer clearance issues.
