3701LK "Pantry" part 1
Well when we bought our LK, DW thought she would be fine without a pantry. 2 days into first trip proved otherwise. Either the cabinets were too high or they were too low and the bend over and reach in was a bit much.
I have never made and installed drawers before. So the project went slow and even though I measured 3 times and cut twice some things had to be done over.
Part 2 will be to add shallow drawers at the other end of the sink.
Part 3 will be to add a big drawer under the sink.
Still need to glue the joints. Here are the before, during and after pix.
In the pic with the rails installed, at the bottom you see 2 loose 1x2s. I used those to measure from the floor to the bottom of the rails. Sort of an install jig.
The top drawer is 16" deep, the bottom is 20". If I had planned this better I could have made them both 20". If DW needs the extra 4 inches I'll make a new drawer. At first I thought the drainline for the sink was going to be an issue. It ends up not being one.
The drawers are 8" and 6 inches high. I made them different sizes so they could be more flexible as to what goes in them. I left space between the drawers again for more flexibility.
Hard part was adapting what was there to attach the rails to. Once that was "engineered" and installed the rails and drawers were easy. (maybe the hard part was the close quarters)
I included a pic of the waste can drawer removed. It shows the size of the hole in the floor for the fresh water tank vent. Folks who are concerned with insulating things may want to add insulation here.
It also shows some of the bracing I used for the rails.
If anyone has questions fire away.
Jeff
