Fixed the pesky closet door track

Our rear closet door in our 2024 3231CK was not rolling smoothly, so I took a look and realized that the upper track that the door hangs on is basically screwed into cardboard and the track was completely coming out after 2-3 months of ownership.

This is such a poor design, but alas it is what it is.

The front track screws into wood so it’s solidly mounted to the ceiling but the rear track has nothing to really hold onto and holds the whole weight of the door.

I went on a hunt for anything that I could use to secure the track and finally found something that seems to have worked well, some time will tell how steady it holds.

I originally ordered some tri-fold rivets that I heard about from this forum but the “nose” of any rivet gun I tried was too thick to fit between the rails on the track so I had to return the rivets and rivet gun.

I wanted something that would “spread” behind the 1/8” panel board so it would have some hold and these seemed to fit the bill. The opening of the track is only 1/2” so my options were limited there as well.

You drill 5/16” holes through the track and paneling (or just the paneling if you want to remove the whole track, pinch the “wings” of the anchors together, push it through the hole, and they provide this little push pin tool to pop the wings out behind the panel. Then you screw the screw in.

I wouldn’t trust only one or two of these, but a series of them all through the track seem to hold quite well.

I will update this thread in a couple of months after we use it, drive with it, etc.

Hope this helps someone else who is frustrated by their closet door dragging and sticking.
