MaxxFan Troubleshooting
Hello,
I've got a Maxx Fan in the front living area that is not functioning correctly. When I hit the vent open button, the vent tries to rotate but in the closed direction. If I manually open the vent and then hit the fan on, the fan does not turn on and the vent closes. We have the exact same model fan in the bathroom so I have a pretty clear idea of how it is supposed to work.
What typically goes wrong with these units? and where should I begin with my troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance - Dave

Did you check the rain sensor to see if it’s wet or has something on it?

Max Air fan
I had the exact same problem you described. I discovered mice had chewed the wiring. The insulation on the Chinese wiring is vegetable based instead of petroleum based. Mice think it is food. Good luck.

I did not but I will check that out! Dumb question - but I assume that it is located on the roof and since I have vent covers, will they need to be removed to access the rain sensor?

On the chewed up wiring, where abouts did you end up finding the problem?

Ours in our "C" went berserk. Ended up being the circuit board. Everything is done from inside.

Got it fixed.....it was the rain sensor accessed from the roof. Cleaned the electrodes with some soapy water and dried them off with a paper towel and all is good!
Thanks for the suggestions - Dave

Did you have to remove anything to gain access to the rain sensor? Was the sensor visible? I’m having the same issue right now.
Thanks

We have the Maxxair vent covers, so those had to be opened/ or removed. Then manually crank the vent open. You will see the electrodes inside. Good luck and hopefully it fixes your issue also.

Unfortunately it wasn't the rain sensor, or the wall switch. Any other ideas? I'm think I'm going to do what the video says and hope for the best. Thanks for your help.

Ceiling above the Light switch panel and in wall close to circuit breakers.

So did you have to do a lot of demolition to fix it?

Take the interior trim off so you can access the wires. Unplug the fan for a few minutes. Plug it in and try it.

Don't worry, if you open and close the fan a few times the Opening Operator Mechanism will Explode and be non-functional anyway.
We have three MaxxAir Vent Fans and the Operator Mechanism has been replaced on all numerous times. I have to call and get more spares sent since I'm out of spares now. It seems it's cheaper for them to send me replacements that it is for them to fix the problem

Voltage testing
How do you test for voltage on a Maxx fan?
