Another slide problem

Background: On our travels through the SW, one of our slides went gunnybag. Was going in all crooked and then wouldn't move at all. Called a mobile RV repair guy and he diagnosed it as the control module underneath. He didn't have one and couldn't get one before we were going to leave. He showed me how to move it manually and said to get a module off of Amazon. I installed it today and it appears that's not the problem or I'm doing something wrong. I followed the recommended procedure on YouTube, moved it to the extended position, retracted it about 10"in, out and in 3 times and it still acted the same as the old module. Doesn't seem to want to synch. Misdiagnosed? Did I do the procedure wrong? Thanks for any advice.

Gunnybag...that's a new one! Can we get more info? What slide is it? A Schwintek perhaps. Known for problems. Just search schwintek in the search bar.

Just brought our 2022 295RL home from warranty work: replaced bedroom slide- Schwintek. Dealer replaced with same system as per warranty. Original bedroom slide Schwintek was installed slightly crooked and one of the drive gears only had two teeth left. Symptoms= starting making noises both directions and finally stopped 10" from closing so we did what dealer tech told us over the phone. When we picked it up, tech, who seemed to know his stuff, said try to always run these slides ALL the way in or out without stopping which (my understanding) helps realign both sides. FWIW

Ok, sorry, that is pretty pertinent information. it is a Schwintek. I've searched the MOC search bar but can't find anything pertaining to my situation. I'm old and slow, could explain a lot. I'm hoping I'm trying to synch the system wrong and someone will set me straight and reassure me that I haven't spent $350 to replace a control module that didn't need replacing and that it's something else.

Unless something has changed, the process I have followed is to run the slide ALL THE WAY IN and OUT 3 times. They specifically told me to never stop until it reaches the fully in or out position as that could cause the motors to get out of sync.
I had to replace a motor on one of mine as the wires had been pulled out of the circuit board on the top of the motor. Running it in and out completely 3 times re-synched the motors with the controller and I haven't had any problems since.

McNeal is absolutely correct. Something they don't tell you at the walk through. Aside from Swhinteck being installed on a slide that is too large for what it's designed for and needing to be installed correctly as it has zero tolerance for misalignment..... make sure to support the axle weight on the slide side when leveling. Particularly with the large slides. Let the axles hang and that hole will not be square! All tracks, gears and shoes were replaced on mine.

The slide won't go in except caddywampus, (that's redneck for crooked) unless I put the controller in manual mode. Is that how you synch the motors, in manual mode?

If you can manage to get the Schwintek to all the way in and out, the motors are synced by continuing to hold the button 5 or 6 additional seconds AFTER the slide has hit it's end of travel. This goes for both extending and retracting the slide. Doesn't seem natural to do, but evidently that is the way it is designed to operate. Like Tony stated, leveling your fifth wheel side to side with leveling blocks beneath the low side wheels prior to auto leveling is of great importance as well.
EDIT: I use these to level our fifth wheel side to side, but blocks, pads or various thickness boards can be used.

Get it all the way in or out manually, if in force it in with the controls for 5 or 6 seconds, or if it's out, force it out with the controls for 5 or 6 seconds. This should sync the motors through the controller and now allow control in and out, if not I would suspect a motor.

Lee has got it right but not complete. if your slide is extended, before you retract it, hold the extend button for five second to sync Motors. You will notice that the slide has creeped in a bit while you were sitting. Retract slide and hold for 5 seconds. If slide is retracted, before extending, hold retract button for 5 seconds to sync. Again you will notice your slide has crept out a little. Extend slide and hold for 5 seconds. This system has never let me down. Second coach with Schwintek slides.

Maybe there should be two questions.
1. Is Keystone moving to use ALL Schwintek slide mechanisms (in lieu of cable slide mechanisms) on the new 2023 Montanas?

I don't know the real answer - but I would speculate that they are not moving in that direction, but I could be wrong. I googled some sales videos for a 2023 High Country unit and a Legacy model. The salesman always films as he walks around the unit explaining the features - and you can see whether a particular slide has cable drives or Schwintek rails, and hydraulic systems for the (generally) the main living room slides.

2. Is Keystone moving to use Schwintek slide mechanisms for all name brand RVs (fifth wheels and travel trailers) they make?

Again - I don't know the real answer but I would speculate the answer to be "No".

I believe Schwintek is cable slides from what I have read.

I believe cable slides were discontinued in 2021. My 2022 HC 295 RL does NOT have cable slides. I just had a warranty issue resolved due to the Schwintek electric motor gear alignment.

Schwintek pictured here. They are generally used for smaller slides like the bedroom.

How hard would it be to remove the Cable or Sshwintek and install a motor driven slide?

Dan,

Both cable and Schwintek are motor driven. Are you asking about converting to hydraulic or something else?

The older unit slides had a motor driven i believe rack and pinion.
