Stowing kitchen and desk chairs

This club has been awesome for a new Montana owner. We just bought a 2007 3485SA, our first big rig and first 5th wheel. So many questions have been answered here along with great new ideas. Thank you!

All of our friends that have kitchen chairs and desk chairs have a strap system for securing them during travel. Ours do not.

What are you doing to secure them? Are they so heavy they don't need anything?

We just bought some straps and hook them together under the table and then to each other.

10 years and counting without doing anything. They stay in place during travel.

Welcome to the forum! We do not secure our chairs to travel.

The only thing we do is the two recliners get turned back to back with the table between them and a large bungee cord goes around the backs of the chairs to prevent them from wobbling.

Here’s how ours came from the factory for the dining chairs - adjustable straps anchored to the table side support for the chair legs and a spring mechanism attached to the side support to keep them against the floor. You could do similar with straps, bungees, etc.

The extra, folding chairs are strapped to the walls in the bedroom closet.

I have never done anything and have never had one move. Try it before you go to a lot of trouble. You can always start tying them down but if you don’t try you will never know it you need to.

Every campers we've had has always had these small D-rings on the floor for securing items with a strap. I just installed 4 more in in my Montana for another purpose. You can find these at Lowe's Home Improvement stores or even Wall Mart in the picture hanging area (small Hardware items). Actually, these are for hanging pictures. They are extremely strong. In carpet they virtually disappear. On a solid floor, they are hardly noticed if positioned well.

None of our dining table chairs(4), our couch or our recliners are secured. We have never had an issue with any of them moving in our 2006

We have a 2019 model 3121 RL. We use the straps that were provided for the two "main" chairs at the dining table. Ours came with 2 additional folding-style chairs that we've never used (or needed), so those are in storage at home sI nce they're quite heavy. Enjoy your rig!

I love the idea of the straps across the recliner couch! Twice now my lower foot rests have popped out on big bumps, and been caught by the slideouts on initial setup, causing the wood trim to pop off and the footrest hardware to be twisted and need bending back. I had decided to just drop some connected cargo straps around the whole couch for traveling, but I like the idea of the hook-strap-buckle set up in your photo! Thanks!!

Unlike most of the replies, we did have a chair bounce out of position during one trip (I think we went over the George Washinton Bridge in NYC...lots of potholes!!). The chair ended up leaning against the living room slide on the outside of the slide. When we went to push the slide out, the chair jammed against the slide. The slide and chair won, and the wooden carved molding surrounding the slide was pulled right off. Since then, we a) inspect thoroughly before extending the slides, and b) lock down everything. Bungees or child locks on all cabinet doors and drawers, straps on all movable furniture (except for the very heavy pull out couch which is lodged in place against other stuff), and everything has a home. IMHO better safe than sorry (again).

Just for an FYI, in my Montana, if it's not anchored down, it moves when we travel! I think my springs are just over bouncy sometimes! I've had cabinet doors fly open (I installed baby safety catches on all my cabinet doors and drawers, chairs are anchored down, and my cabinet shelves all have retainer spring loaded bars across them as things fly out the cabinet.

I even added spring loaded shower curtain bars in the refrigerator to hold stuff in and not come flying out the door when we first open it!

We just use a bungee Cord. The straps that come with the rig are a waste (to me). Just use the chair buddy and loop the chair legs together then hook to top of chair buddy. Doesn’t move. Hope this helps
