Lifting both tires at once

Has anyone lifted both tires at same time on drivers or passenger sides ? While trying to grease the suspension wet bolts I could get my floor jack on the outside main frame beam, but the suspension assembly interfered in getting a safe “bite” to lift both wheels. I considered using 4x4’s and spanning three or four cross members underneath and cleared from suspension? Any advice or help much appreciated

I use the hydraulic leveling system to lift all four tires completely off the ground when servicing the brakes and bearings as well as doing tire replacement or flat tire changes. The front landing jacks are rated 14,000 lbs each and the leveling jacks are rated 8,000 lbs each, so more than enough capacity to lift the rig. It is still not a good idea to crawl around under the rig without sufficient support such as jack stands.

The Level Up system is the way to go.

Ok. I actually called Lippert after a buddy suggested this. Lippert Tech advised not doing this but using a portable jack instead.

Lippert has to say that, it's a CYA from the Legal team. If they gave you the OK and if for some unknown reason the Hydraulic system failed and you were crushed your survivor could sue.

True about the lawsuit. I’ve never checked into jack load capacity. Thanks

The original adds for the Level Up system touted using it for changing tires and greasing the springs. Then the lawyers got involved and those claims disappeared. I think I have some of the ads from 2011 out in the RV. I will have to see if I can find that claim.

Lippert would be liable if the jack failed. So the right answer is don't do it. Can the jacks lift the wheels? Absolutely! Would I rely on them without jack stands? No! Are hydraulic better then electric? Yes! The pump with an 80 amp supply should have no problem lifting, especially with a 6 point. An electric 4 point at 50 amps will pop the breaker a time or two before the tires are off the ground.

I have used the hydraulics to raise the tires but I also support axils with a bottle jack for safety sake

I use the leveling jack's and I always have the truck hooked on when I do . Probably not necessary, but I feel safer.

Yep, Lippert sez no, but I've lifted one side at a time to service the brakes and bearings. However, don't put your body under there unless you put jackstands under the frame.

Yup I’ve been using my 6 point hyd system to lift all four tires off the for7jd for the last nine years..

It’s how I do my annual brake inspection and repack my wheel bearings

I don’t use any Jack stands as I don’t crawl under the fifth wheel..

This year I lifted the entire unit off the ground and yanked off the tires and took them down to get replaced, and while waiting to get the tires done came back to the house and did the brakes and bearings

One note.. when you lift both tires in one side off the ground at the same time usually the center link shackle bars will flip down..

This is no biggie and when you lower RV back onto ground the shackles will flip back into correct position

When you view the center equalizer between the axles the shackle bars should form the seal of a W.. if however they form the shape of an M then they did not flip.. they will flip back into position when you hook up and tow forward

I have used a bottle jack to lift the 5’er enough to do any servicing.
Place the jack under your I-beam frame on a sturdy pad, not asphalt. Build your cribbing high enough for the to bring the jack 3” from I-beam an place a 2x4 or 2x6 about 1-2’ long between the jack and frame. This gives enough clearance for lifting and removing. I use a 6x6” for cribbing. Never a shake or a wabble. No damage to frame.
Hope this helps,
Happy Trails

This just to avoid lawsuits, he tells someone it`s OK but the guy doesn`t tell him the trailer is parked on an 9% grade without wheel chocks once lifted. You get the picture....... But to note, I told my wife to unhook the camper one day she did not unhook the hitch and lifted the ford dually in the back a 11/2 feet off the ground before I saw what was happening. Said she thought it would drop off at some point. 40 years of camping in and out of campgrounds sometimes I just wonder. But any way this just shows you the power of the hydraulic legs.

Yes, I use a 12 ton jack and Safe Jack set up, to lube the wet bolts and change brakes, check bearings, etc. I always hook up the truck for added safety, and I jack on the frame just behind the rear leaf spring hanger. I have 12ton jack stands I got for just these task and to insure I’m safe under the trailer.

Can you lube the wet bolts without jacking up the 5er?
