DEF prices

I haven,t bought def for quite a while and was aghast at the current price! More than double what I last paid. Can we blame the pandemic for this or the Russians? This is just gouging. Def is 65% water and 35% urea. Both dirt cheap. Sorry if this borders on political commentary but.............!

Where did you purchase John? I've been using up my stock at the sticks and bricks so that it doesn't go too old and therefore have not purchased in a while myself. I'll check my local tractor supply when I get back home in about a week and a half.

I started buying at the pump at the truck stops.
DEF is liquid and weighs 8lbs per gallon, AND fuel prices are high, transportation cost are high too.

I,m in Ontario Canada and have checked all the major outlets here; Walmart, Canadian Tire, TSC , etc. They all are charging close to the same amount, which brings up another sin of today,s retailers, collusion to eliminate competition.

NAPA went from $8 to $20, most places seem to be $16 or so.

Good advice at purchasing at the pump. I've avoided doing so due to having to wait in line, but if box prices are doubling, then this would be the smarter thing to do for us.

It's higher than it had been, but when we first purchased our 2012 Chevy, the only place I could find DEF was at a local truck stop and it was $10 a gallon in one gallon jugs, so It still hasn't gotten that high yet.

The last Def I bought, over 2 yes ago was under 10$ CDN for 2.5 gal. Now the best I can find is $21.50 CDN. I believe what is happening is that companies made very little during all the health shut downs so now they,re charging enormous prices to capture those lost profits. Supply and demand has nothing to do with spiking prices since there are no real shortages. Def and fuel and food is everywhere.

Last purchased DEF about a month ago from Wall Mart. I absolutely do not use truck stops (for a lot of reasons). And at Wall Mart yes, the price of DEF has increased significantly.

Why? Everything is being blamed on the higher price of fuel for everyone. And in order to recover those costs and still make any kind of profit to stay in business, that price is passed on to us... the consumer.

I live in farm county and I was talking to my neighbor just a couple days ago about the cost of diesel to run their farm tractors, combines, and those semi-truck grain trucks. I simply asked how they are able to make any kind of profit to stay in business. (I'm talking about one of these farmers that owns, probably a thousand or more acres, and farms a couple or three thousand more for other's.

He said, they simply have to pass the cost onto the customer. It's all because of the cost of fuel.

Just day dreaming...

I am tempted to learn C++. That's the code automobile computers speak. Then rewrite the code to just make all the DEF stuff go away....

DEF price

My local COSTCO caries Blue Def in the 2-1/2 US gallon containers and it is the cheapest around here beating Walmart and all local hardware stores. Costco sold it for $9.95 USD a couple of years ago. I think the last time a picked some up a month or so ago it was $12.95 per carton. I expect it will be more next time. I once tried a truck stop but the nozzle was to big for my 2019 Duramax. It would not fit all the way down the fill tube to where it was secure enough not to hand hold the nozzle.

I have a friend who grows sweet corn. He told me before planting he would loose money this year. Fertilizer went from $75 to $275 per acre. Nitrogen went from $11 a bag to $30. Seed went up Diesel went up every thing went up.
So if he knew he would loose money why did he plant corn? I think several reasons. He worked at Virginia Tech in the AG dept. he has a PHD in farming and likes to grow corn. It’s double and triple sweet corn. So he grows it because look forward to it. He is a very nice person that money doesn’t mean much of. There are some nice people in this world.

Urea has doubled or more in price. Have you purchased any fertilizer this year? India produces 3x more Urea than any other country. Russia is 2nd but nowhere near the production of India.

DEF is the least of my worries when Diesel is $6 bucks and climbing. Shortages rumored already in the northeast. I look for the price to keep climbing. When diesel is high. Everything is high. The answer is obvious.

After we spend for some high dollar rigs even at earlier prices, pay for gas and campgrounds I don't really notice the difference in DEF prices.

Op here. When we stop asking we set ourselves up for the greedy to rip us off. High prices for Def doesn't bother me. I can afford it and in the midst of all these other gargantuan price hikes on fuel , food, etc., it's not significant but I believe that although the pandemic and the Ukrainian war are factors in pricing, that 50% and 100% hikes are fueled by greed, not shortages. In Canada the largest grocery chain is reporting unprecedented profits each quarter while many in the population can,t afford decent food for their families.
