I 20 condition

The last time I drove through Shreveport, LA on I 20, I swore I would never do a repeat! It just happens to be the most direct and convenient route for a trip we are planning for January 2024. Has anyone driven it recently? Any improvement? TIA

I20

We just drove I20 from Alabama to Texas. Alabama was ok, Mississippi was the worst, Louisiana all of the bridge approach's were terrible, Texas was OK

Not recently, but we live nearby in East Texas. I believe the bypass to the north and east (I 220) is by far the better route. Have you tried that?

8-12 years ago, I was on I10 and I think just west of New Orleans the road had a nice rhythm where the trailer and truck would just chuck back and forth. I had to slow to 40 mph to get it to be decent. Stopped for gas and ask if I went up to I20 and if that was better. Guy said the rhythm ended right there headed east, so I never made it up to I20. I know, totally off topic but bad memories of Louisiana.

I220

We were forced to use I220 as I20 was shutdown. It seemed to be much worse that I20 was!

Are there any good Inter-States in this Country any more?? Even the ones you have to pay to use are still terrible.

That is one tax rate increase I could live with IF the road conditions actually improved.

Drove the I-220 and its not much better than I-20, though I-20 is absolutely horrible. You will need to turn on your hazard flashers and go slow. Most of the interstate roads in Louisiana are bad.but Texarkana and Shreveport are horrible. Don't even think about going through Baton Rouge, especially anytime around rush hour. You just need to go slow, then slower.

Totally agree. We are currently in the Tampa area and to avoid I-4 congestion we take secondary roads to Orlando. They are so bad that, when safe, I find myself putting the right wheels in the center and the left on the yellow line to avoid the almost endless potholes.

My back is a train wreck and rough roads are agony.

Update: we just completed a trip from Alabama to Arizona on I20/I10. The road was in better condition than I was expecting, Miss was the worst, with Luisiana a close 2nd. The bridges were the worst in Luisiana and the final section if I10 in Arizona was the worst with the right lane full of potholes. Otherwise there seems to have been a lot of work done in several states. Overall is was not bad.
