Bike Rack in Rear of 5ver

I recently purchased a 2013 3582RL. It is currently in storage for the winter and I won’t have access to it until spring. I would like to install a bike rack at the rear of the trailer when we travel. However, this particular model does not have a receiver. I would like to extend the frame and add a receiver to the extension. Can anyone tell me what would be involved in doing this? Is the frame exposed underneath to make the job easier? Any other considerations? The bike rack is about 35lbs. plus 2 bikes so it wouldn’t have to support a huge load. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a new bumper with a receiver welded to the frame. This was done by a trailer shop. Hollywood racks makes a few bike racks build to work on a fifth wheel - most racks are lighter duty and not designed for the stress they get on a fifth wheel.

The other options to consider are a rack on the front of your truck or on the pin.

I don’t want them on the front of the truck and my truck has a shorter box so putting the rack on the pin won’t work. The other question I had is whether it would be better to weld to the frame or bolt?

I welded, but bolting could also work.

That trailer back bumper may be the worst possible place to haul bikes with the exaggerated movement there which can tend to be somewhat violent and damaging to bikes.

Mine has been bolted on for about 12 years. Seems to work fine. I understand what Dave W is saying about the movement. If you ever follow one down the road it looks exaggerated. The bikes if secured to the rack adequately are not taking a beating just moving in harmony with the rack. My bike takes a lot more beating on a trail with both wheels on the ground and my 195 pound butt on the seat.

If you have a square bumper that is properly attached to the rear, you can use a bolt-on receiver. Mine is solid (some aren't) and I've been carrying two bikes for years with no issues.

Bolt on is fine especially for the light load you have. If there is any excessive bouncing there is a U bolt type device that firms up the connection from the rack to the receiver. There is no significant difference between what is shaken on a bike rack or the contents inside the rear of the trailer. Afterall, the two are only a couple feet apart.

We carried our bikes for years with a mount that attaches to the ladder. Very secure, and no alterations to the 5er.

Carrying two bikes on a rack attached to my ladder broke the ladder.

I had Lippert weld a receiver onto the frame. I then added the bike rack. Have traveled to FL for the past three seasons with it and no issues.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear in my original post. My 5th wheel does not have a bumper or a receiver. I would like to fabricate something that I can either weld or bolt on to the frame underneath the trailer and weld a receiver to that so that I can mount a bike rack. I'm thinking as long as the bike rack fits snugly into the receiver, the bikes should be fine.
My question is more specific to the 2013 3582 model. After purchasing I put it in storage for the winter. I do know that it has no bumper. Before I put it in storage I did not look underneath the trailer, so was wondering if anyone knew how difficult it would be to do the above to this specific trailer.

I have a short bed truck and I put a hitch on my pin. It works great.
