Broken Front Door Hinge

We have noticed recently that our front door to the trailer has been “snapping” when we open and close the door. This morning I took a look and discovered that on the upper hinge, the bracket was broken along with the hinge pin was broken in half. I drilled out the rivets holding the broken bracket in place and have eliminated for now the cracking/snapping sound when the door is opened or closed.

I went online this morning and ordered a new hinge assembly from Trekwood. Hard to take that they want $90 for a new hinge.

Has anyone had a similar issue with their front door and are there any thing I should be aware of when I install the new hinge when it arrives?

Don

Back in the summer of 2020 the friction hinge on our 3850FL caused the door and frame to warp so that the door was almost impossible to close. The hinge never broke at the rivets, but the frame itself warped and the door would hit on the opposite side on the drip rail area above the latch.

I had to have the entire door and frame replaced, fortunately under my extended warranty.

Wow, I know Trekwood is very expensive on everything, but you'd think you could get the entire door for $90, not just a hinge.

Trekwood wants $920 for the door to our 2016 Montana. All the hardware needed to install the door is extra.

The hinge on Amazon looks similar, ours has two hole per hinge piece that fits the door to the frame. This Amazon picture shows just one hole per hinge segment that anchors door to the frame.

Our new door hinge arrived this past week while we were vacationing in Utah. It was easy to replace the hinge and align it to the frame. Lippert has a good video on their website on how to replace one of their door hinges. Self tapping screws makes the job easy.

The hinge pin broke as well as one of the door tabs on the hinge. Apparently the gap was not correct between the top of the hinge and the bottom of the hinge and was off my about 3/16 of an inch. Thus, the hinge twisted every time the door was opened and closed. Our door in quiet now and opens and closes easily, and also stays where it is placed.

I had to replace the bottom hinge last month and ordered on Amazon. I got a box with two hinges for 33$ . I had to use the old hinge extension piece for the screen door but the job was easy after I figured out how to adapt the new hinge and old hinge to hold the screen door. The new hinges were oem from lippert.
