Landing gear

Does anyone know what Keystone is using for landing gear in these rigs? I need to replace one and can't find a part number.
I'm guessing they are Lippert manufactured. Is it better to change out the whole leg or buy parts? Looks like I can do either. What do you guys suggest?

Our 2010 used Venture. Good web page with drawings and part numbers. You did not indicate exactly why or what went wrong. I bent a leg and stripped the gear on the drive leg and replaced both legs, gear box, and motor as a set.

Sorry, I either stripped out a gear or broke a pin. Unhitching yesterday, the street-side leg gave way. Lucky the truck was still underneath. I am still in the campground with a 12 ton bottle jack supporting that corner of the trailer. The motor is a Venture, but not sure of the leg itself. I won't start tearing it down 'til I get home tomorrow.

Sambam, On top of each landing gear jack is a cap. Take it off and there should be a number on the bottom of the cap. The cap is on the direct top of the jack.
With it giving away, I lean toward the screw shaft ,or jack nut stripping. Bill

Thanks, Bill. I'll check that out first thing tomorrow. Appreciate the feedback. Come to expect it from the guys on the MOC.

Thanks, Bill. More information that will help with the repair. Now I know what I am dealing with and have a visual of the fix. Thanks to you and the MOC, I got this.

Today I pulled the leg out of the trailer and inspected the parts. My gears are both ok along with the pin.
I believe Bill (Crossthread) is right in that either the screw or jack nut is stripped, but can't confirm since getting the jack screw out of the housing looks like some work. I cannot turn the screw by hand, which leads me to believe it is bound up in the nut. I called Venture and they want $165 plus shipping for the new leg. I am curious as to how universal these legs are, as I think I can save some money by not ordering from them, although they have been helpful.

sambam, it has been a while since I have taken one apart. I think that if you remove the top gear, there is a bearing, washer, and may be a collar. Then you can drop it out the bottom end. Like I said,it has been a while since I took one apart, but the screw jack will come out.
I tried to find the exploded view of the jack assembly, but had no luck. Bill

Side note, HEY BUTCH, do you have the exploded view??

Bill: you know I sure do! Here is a post I made a week ago and it has the link to all the Venture Documents. If you recall, when we fixed Michaels' over- retracted jack screw, we had to use a drift to undo the pressed in dent in the outer column that holds jack screw assembly in place. Once we got out, I seemed to recall we stuck it in a 2" receiver hitch to hold the jack screw nut while a pipe wrench got things loose.

============= Previous Post of Venture Information ============

I have spent some time communicating with Venture Manufacturing Company and as a result they sent me 12 PDFs with everything you ever wanted to know about their landing legs. The topics range from "Owners Manual" to "Landing Gear Rebuild Instructions" including parts lists and how to convert to dual motors (for the really heavy front-end Montanas). Everything you ever want to know about your landing gear is available in these documents.

If you would like a copy of the PDFs send me (via email or PM) your email address. I will send them to you.

On Edit: I remembered there were so many requests for these documents, I made them available via DropBox. Here is the link to the list of PDFs and you can download any of them.

I have found many of those PDF's on the Venture web-site, including the exploded view of the leg. They are very informative. My project is going to require some extra "persuasion" to get the screw out of the leg, such as you outlined in your post. It doesn't matter at this point. With the hardware on the top of the leg in good shape, what else could have caused the leg to collapse the way it did? Has to be the screw/nut assembly stripping. I had to tie the leg up with rope to keep it from dragging on the ground coming home yesterday. There was nothing holding it in place. I could push it back into the housing with my hand. Which leads to another concern: The leg failed with no warning. Thankfully, the truck was still in place and the trailer landed back on the hitch. I don't want to be an alarmist, but what if I had pulled the truck out already? It could have been ugly. Just food for thought.
