Induction cooking
I've just purchased two induction "hot" plates and a complete set of compatible cookware. I found these great for my full time RV life. They are so much safer than cooking with propane and because power is usually included in the site rental fee ... they are cheaper to use too as I'm not using propane! And they heat up fast without heating up my kitchen and with all the automatic features on the units and auto shut off, timers, warming function etc. it really is so much more versatile than my propane cook top. Using the large dutch oven on it acts as a "crock pot" slow cooker. One less item to find a place for in my limited cupboard space. I purchased two at $100 Can each. You can probably beat that price in the States ... but I also found a set of "Paderno" induction compatible stainless steel cookware shoved way back on the shelf. It was regular price $750 on sale for $210. Now that was a steal of a deal ... or maybe I should say it was a deal of 'steel'!
So if you're wondering if you should go ahead I say yes. Just be aware that they're rated at 1800 watts on full power. I blow my breaker if I have them both plugged into the same circuit running on full power. But because they are light weight and portable I don't find it a problem or inconvenience at all. They work fineout on my picnic table as well as on my kitchen counter top.
I won't mention the brand name, so you don't think I'm a salesman trying to push a product. But I'm sold on them. Oh you should also be aware there is a health warning on them in regards to pacemakers. I don't know if it will cause a problem or not I don't have one. But the warning is there on the box similar to the warning on microwaves.

Good to hear that someone is getting some experience with these. Will have to start doing some web searches to see what pops up. Thanks. John

We are interested in purchasing one of these "hot plates" for both indoor and outdoor use, now that they have dropped below the $100. Canadian mark.

They do suck up energy. Our Nu wave on high 425 degrees draws 7.0 amps.Keystone does not offer one on any brand. Winnebago does have one of their MH models and we are looking into adapting that into the Montana.

We have been using them for a couple of years now and we don't leave home without them. The Weekend Warrior Toy Hauler has them.

We have been using our NuWave induction burners for 2 years now and absolutely LOVE them! We have had both in use at the same time inside the Monty without any trouble. We also love being able to use them either inside or outside. We got the buy 1 get one free which also included the 2 skillets, 2 carry bags, fondue pot and skewers. We gave just over $100 IIR and have not regretted it. Haven't used the fondue pot though......... Tim

We don't own the hot plate yet, but we do have the NuWave oven. When we first got it, we bought a pack of four pork chops from Wally World. We cooked two on the stove and cooked the other two in the NuWave. The stove top chops were tough and dry. The NuWave were moist and tender. So tender that they could be cut with a fork. We will be getting the hot plate and as others have said, stove top cooking may be nearing an end.

I have used nothing but my induction cook tops in our Big Sky. Have never used the gas stove. I love them! We are looking into taking out the gas stove/oven and having a two-burner induction cooktop installed. I liked my convection oven until I got the NuWave oven. I haven't cooked any meat in it, yet, but I love roasting veggies in it and cookies and biscuits are a snap. NO PREHEATING! Just put the stuff in it and turn it on. Love, love, love it!
I like that they don't heat up the camper while I cook.
The savings on propane is awesome. We spent 5 months in central FL this winter and never filled a propane tank.

Ginny, when you showed us yours at the mid-Atlantic rally, I was convinced I needed one. Well I got one at the Lodge Outlet and love it. Cooked all winter on it without using gas. A bonus was that it fit perfectly in the seat of a chair for travel. Looking at putting one in the kitchen when we build the new house.

Pat - I know! I told Steve, when we decide to get another stick and brick, I want the induction cooktop in it. That will be my one "must have."

Looking to replace cooktop with induction
We use our induction burner all the time to keep down the heat and fire alarm going off. We are looking into replacing our propane cooktop with an induction cooktop. Anyone with experience to share? Which one is the best? Thanks.

We fulltime and have two NuWaves...........use them both at the same time with no problems. Use our over to store them since we do not use the oven unless DW is baking a cake or pie.

We have a True Induction two burner Cook Top in our unit, plus a portable. For oven we use our Convection/Microwave.
Love all three, no more heating up the inside when cooking or baking.

So did you replace your gas cooktop with the two burner True Induction? That is the one we have been looking at also.

No, it was and option on our SOB and since we rarely used the Gas Range on previous units we decided to go with Induction and we already had some cookware that would work with Induction.
Note: It can be an expensive change if you don't already have cookware that will work.

We bought an Induction hot plate at Costco for about C$50. Looking forward to trying it out on our trip south this winter.
Last winter we brought an electric roaster which we used a few times for baking muffins and cooking a roast. Put it outside on a table so it didn't heat up the trailer. Worked great. I doubt we will use either the propane burners or stove very much this year.
