2014 3402RL AC Unit Red Wire not connected

Hello, I finally got the cover off of my AC unit and cleaned out all of the white cotton. I also found that there is a red wire that was laying loose and not connected to anything. I tried to route it to different parts of the unit to see where it could attach to but was unsuccessful.

I have attached pictures as well. Does anyone know what this wire may be used for?

Although I can't help you right now, I will remind you of the old saying ... If it isn't broken don't fix it.

I am in the process of determining whether it is broken or not. This main AC unit hasn't worked properly since we purchased it a year ago. This is why I am on my quest with it...

Another way I like to express it is: If it ain't broken, fix it till it is! So in attempt to guess what the red wire is, it may be a speed wire from the blower motor. Thr schematic a black high speed, a yellow medium speed and a red low speed. The wire you are holding doesn't appear to be red. The red wire appears to be of 2 conductor construction combined into a ring terminal. If you were to follow the wire to it's origin, and it happens to be the blower motor, you may have your answer. The photo shows red, black, and white. A shortcut is to just look at the blower motor to see if you find the 3 colors exiting it. It is always a good idea to cap off the stray wire. If indeed it is the low speed to the blower, and if it were to contact a grounded metal part during the motor operating, the motor will be damaged. Also a better schematic can likely be found by googling "Dometic a/c schematic". Then choose images. Give us a courtesy sound out if you find the answer!

Could you provide more detail to as to what "it hasn't worked properly since we purchased it a year ago" means??? Does it work at all?? Blower motor shuts off but compressor still runs at times?? Low volume of air output?? doesn't cool very well?? The thermostat and a/c control board can switch motor speeds, which would fit in with the loose red wire you found.

So do you have the temperature sense wire still taped to the ac unit base in the front of the unit on the foam covering? If not, then you may have found it.

Hoyett ... Had you not left out the part about the AC wasn't working right, I wouldn't have responded as I did.

That is the temperature sensor that connects to the circuit board in the air conditioner. It should mount to the front where the shroud screws on the air conditioner. Mine is taped in place when built in 2013 and is still there.
