2011 295rkd is ours

Howdy All,

We picked up a 2011 Montana Mountaineer 295RKD last Wednesday. Spent the rest of the day cleaning and then camped at a local state park Thursday thru Sunday. Had a great time.
The camper is in almost new shape all the way around. Looks like it spent it's previous life under a roof and never moved. The dome about the shower is clear as new. It still had the original goodyear tires on it. We had those replace before taking it home.

Not sure how to post a picture from my laptop

Congrats on the purchase of your Mountaineer! You were very wise to have tires replaced right up front. Next, you may want to get the bearings repacked if you plan on traveling and not sitting stationary.

It sounds like you've done a great job of breaking in your new camper and your first campout was a success! Congrats on that too!

Again, Welcome and enjoy camping!

Funny you should mention wheel bearings. After I put the camper in the barn yesterday I pulled one of the hubs as I thought the brakes seemed weak. The one I pulled showed that grease had been pushed past the wheel hub seal and the brakes and the surface the magnet grabs were coated in grease. No wonder they didn't work well. I'll be pulling all four off over the winter and fixing that.

If your unit has the grease zerk on the wheel, be careful using it - or better yet don't use it. Most here recommend pulling the wheel and packing the bearinigs. If you pump in one too many pumps with the gun, it does what happened to your unit.
