Slide cables

Getting ready to move camper and one of my upper slides came in about a foot and stopped. Pushed it back out and tried again, same result. went to see and noticed that the upper cable was frayed and some strands were broken. is there anything I can do about this while I wait for a repair? We were scheduled to go out today for 2 weeks. Help

On a trip last summer one of my cables was so slack it came off the sprocket by the door. I put it back in place, got a small step ladder to stand on the island, and twisted the cable nut until both sides were fairly tight and balanced. Then, I did the same to the kitchen and bedroom slide outs, which were also loose on one side. Then, I ran them almost all the way in and rechecked the tension (this uses the opposite cable to my loose extension cables). Twist the nuts until tensions are balanced, stick the small foam cubes back into the cable-nut connection, and you should be good to go.
