Super Solar Incorrect Settings

Emergency Information - Super Solar
We came across some information that could decrease your charging capability on Super Solar units. We found at least two units at rally that were only charging to 13.5v. We found several issues that can be traced back to Keystone instructions. First up was Neal Katz. We found his charge voltage was set to 13.5v instead of 14.2v. We changed that but nothing changed for a few days and it finally did get to 14.2v. Today, we looked at the Magnum inverter charge settings (settings/rotate dial to #4, Charge settings). It should say Custom. Rotate to Absoption. It should be 13.5v. It was set to 14.2v. Rotate left to 13.5v and push the round knob. This sets it to 13.5v. Next rotate to Float. This was set at 13.5v and should have been set at 14.2v. The net result was charging only to 13.5v instead of 14.2v. We found similar issue with Jim Santore’s unit. I have already sent info to Keystone and Matt Wolkins. It’s easy to check and fix yourself. Hope this helps someone solve a problem.

I believe the absorption voltage should be higher than the float voltage.

This is the voltage of the battery, not voltage going into the battery. With float set at 13.5v, the Magnum thinks it is done charging and the charger stops charging. Both of these units were only getting to 13.5v. To compound this, the Victron on one unit was set at 13.5. So, both Solar and Magnum Charger were only getting to 13.5v. After changing the Victron to 14.2v, it did charge to 14.2v after several days (Solar was now going to 14.2 but shore was stuck at 13.5v.)

Appreciate you guys keeping the forum abreast on matters / issues you've come across with the Keystone solar setups. Know that the info is geared more toward the SuperSolar but some of your info definitely correlates down to the lower levels as well. This info can obviously be used for upgrade planning purposes. Trial and error would otherwise make for some costly mistakes due to poor planning decisions. We are members of the Montana Fifth Wheel Factory Solar Flex FB group as well. Thanks again!

Interesting discussion with Matt Wolkins. As Daryles pointed out, the Absorb should be higher and the original settings were correct (almost). Went through my settings and found Power Save was set to 15 minutes on theirs and off on mine. On one, the Victron was set to 13.5v max charge. So, mine was 14.4v absorb and 13.8v float, just to clarify.

Ok now I'm confused Maybe it's because I don't have super solar? I have solar flex 400 with a Magnum 2000. You're referring to the Magnum as the charger. Mine is just an inverter. Is there a difference with the 1200?

Cheese, yes, there are a number of different settings on Victron, Precision Circuit, and Magnum. Yes, there are more settings on the Super Solar. I will PM you, as I need more info.

Hello Everyone, it has been a while...

These are the settings I use both in the Magnum Inverter and my Victron Energy solar controllers:

Absorb = 14.5
Float = 13.5
Equalize = “lowest value” (which is 14.5)
Rebulk = 13.3

These are the settings recommended by Future Solutions (see attachment). I had to modify a few of the settings from the factory to set these. As far as I know the recommended settings have not changed. I changed the absorb time from 2.5 to 3 hrs since I now have 4 Dragonfly Gamechanger batteries

Best Regards, Mike
