Larger TV ???

Has anyone changed the counter top where the TV raises up from and made a larger opening for a bigger TV. I want to go from a 43" to a 55" and still use the riser mechanism. Any thoughts or ideas please share.

I just swapped out the factory one, which was a 50" for another 50" smart TV. Not sure if a 55" will fit. I have the desk option in my trailer with the motorized TV. I guess you could measure your opening and see if it will fit. The factory brackets should all work.

Question: Will the current mechanism raise and lower a larger TV?? I know some already have an issue where the TV does raise quite high enough to be able to hit the sensor with the remote, and to go to that much larger of a TV might create a whole new set of problems.

^^^^This would be my thought/concern. Replacing like sized TVs is one thing but to up the size by 12" would give me pause, particularly about the lifting mechanism. You might have the one Keystone trailer where they plus sized all the mechanisms to make them robust as possible....or, it might be like all the rest with a mechanism that was just strong enough to lift a 43" TV until it left the lot...... Not being a smart alec, just saying that more would worry me than making it fit in the hole.

Don't remember the sizes, but on our 2010 we measured the hole and bought the biggest one that would fit. It was a good deal bigger than the original. The problem wasn't the weight, it was lining it up on the bracket so it would just fit down the hole.

The factory TV was a 40" that I replaced with a 43". The 43" was the largest that would fit in the hole. What I want to do is replace the counter top with a custom cut one with a hole large enough to fit the 55" and use the factory lift mechanism. I too, wonder if the mechanism will handle the extra weight. TV's were heavier in 2011-2012 when my Montana was built and the old 40" TV was noticeably heavier than the 43" that I replaced it with. Just want some way to mount a 55" without it moving around on the road.

I would think as long as the new tv was not too much heavier the mechanism should move it up and down ok. Remove the top corion cover, enlarge the hole in width and make a new cover out of matching corion or wood or what ever,

Put enough weight on the top of the old TV to equal the weight of the new TV. Operate the lift a few times. That will tell you if it will sustain the weight of the new.

Just for giggles, put a 5 or 10 pound weight in top of the existing cover and try it out. A larger TV won't weigh that much more than that load now totals.

These new flat screen sets are amazingly thinner and lighter than years past. Hope you get the big set you want and it all works out.

I think if you find a problem it will be having no support on the ends of the TV that hang out so much further than the old one did.

I wonder if another issue is that the lift won't lift high enough? Meaning, what if it lifts all the way and you can't see the bottom few inches of the TV?

I replaced my 50" with a 4k 50" with no issue. After doing that I would think the only 2 issues you may have (mentioned above) is to get enough lift to get the bottom out of the cabinet so the remote will work, and getting it low enough for the cabinet cover to sit correctly, remember extra height means extra depth also. One thing I noticed was that there were multiple mounting points on the lift so you may be OK. I had to hit Lowe's to get screws for the new one, they don't come with any and the old ones were too short.

I haven’t received my Montana 3761FL yet but I’m bringing my 55” curve TV but plan to just have it stationary and not use the lift. Since I don’t the RV, I don’t have any details but have thought I would look into securing the mount to the platform. Without doing that, I’d have take it down during travel. This approach obviously doesn’t do much for the window behind it.

Agree! I have a front living room Montana fifth wheel and the television raises and lowers in the front. I've done everything I know to raise the television just a "bit" higher because the remote sensor is on the BOTTOM left corner of the television, which is actually right exactly level (now) with the top of the cabinet. In order to use the remote, we have to hold our hands with the remote as far above our heads as possible so the sensor on the television can see it.

You could put spacers (or a block or two) under the lifting mechanism attached to the floor (if you don't mind tearing out your cabinet just so you can get to it, but then the top would not come down flat. The television itself would be too high. Now you could rebuild the top too, but if you do, the sensor on the new television could potentially be blocked again.

In short, there is no good solution unless you rip out the cabinet and rebuild it to install a larger television that will actually work.

I would really think this through, I don't know of a TV stand that would hold up to the rigors of a moving RV, something will break loose, that is a lot of weight to be freestanding above a stand.

I had the same issue, TV set too low. When I replaced mine there were many holes in the lift to place the mount and I remember someone saying something about placing washers on the top of the lift to raise it. I was able to adjust mine so I don't have to hold the remote in the air anymore

I point my remote at the ceiling about 3 ft in front of the television and bounce the signal. It works great!
