Molding Insert Trim
Looks like we are going to be sitting put for the next ???? due to you know what. Tired of talking, reading, hearing about this virus running through the country right now. So while we have time, a lot of it, going to work on my list of projects. First off we are in a 2017 3820FK. In various places the exterior Molding Insert Trim is splitting, pulling out of the channel, basically just deteriorating. Found a replacement but I am thinking about just pulling it out and not replacing it. It "appears" to be there for aesthetics. Before I just pull it out and throw it away figured I'd take a minute (we have a lot of those now) to ask the brain trust for ideas. Have others had the same problem? Can I just pull it out and chunk it? My only concern is the screws I see under the trim. If I chunk the trim and DO NOT replace it, should I put a dab of silicone on the screws? Thanks Joe

The trim piece you are referring to is usually used to transition from one material to another.
IMHO, it would look ugly to remove the plastic trim and cover screws with silicone.
I replaced all on our rig. Looks much better. Not that hard to do, a residential screen roller installation tool makes it much easier. Plastic insert material comes in ¾ inch and 1 inch widths. Not very expensive. You will also need Pro Flex sealant for some of the ends.

According to Trekwood, they show the 1" trim insert in black for your rig. https://www.trekwood.com/products/60...-Black-1000-RL

Before installing the vinyl trim, lay it out in the sun for about 10 minutes. Goes in a lot easier when warm. Also don't try to stretch it. Instead try to get as much in as possible. If stretched it shrinks when it gets cold. Ever have your trim pop out of track on the curve on either side of hitch?

Thanks for the replies and links for the replacement trim.
Hblick48 you asked....... "Ever have your trim pop out of track on the curve on
either side of hitch?"
On our rig, the only place on the front we have trim is on the left and right sides. It is popping out, and shredding. Pretty much it is cracking, tearing everywhere it's installed on our rig.

Joe, the black vinyl covers the screwheads, I shudder to think of the leaks and delamination from water intrusion.

Trim
Vinyl shrinks and expands with cold and heat, respectively. I found a product that's made entirely of rubber. No more shrinking, cracking and no more replacing. I pulled out that old crap vinyl and replaced it with an all rubber trim. There are two sizes to pick, 5/8" and 7/8" width. You purchase the trim by the foot. The company will send out samples of each, if you wish. The 7/8" fit best for our 2017 RW, #70-3979-240. Color is black. It took a little nudging to get into place, but it looks perfect once in. I put a couple dabs of RTV silicone adhesive on both ends to seal. Company will send a catalog if you request. There are slide out, window, door, compartment seals, plus much more. Toll free: 800-230-5897 or
website: www.rv.steelerubber.com With the COVID19 problems affecting us all, the company is operating, but their sales staffs are working from home, so be patient.

So where do you find the right trim. So many different kinds. Wasted some oxygen and emails contacting keystone. I need it for under inwall slides

I have a 2008 Montana and want to replace the weathered trim molding. Do you know what color was on the older Montana. Is it white or beige?

Forget the color and the vinyl. It's cheap and will crack again. Get the seal from www.rv.steelerubber.com It's black and it will go with any color and it will last beyond your 5th's life. We put black on our 5th, looks sharp and since then, several others have purchased the same and like it. Comes in two sizes, so they'll send you samples of each size at no cost. Then just order the length you need and add about 6 inches to a foot. Use a dull putty knife to work it into the grooves.
