Looking for guidance -Honda EU 7000is install
Hi all - Recently purchased a 2020 3740FK. Wanted to put a good genny on it so I bought a Honda EU 7000 is inverter. Anyone have install pics and/or rigging advice? Figured I'd mount it in the most forward storage area just below/behind the trailer king pin. I've got a 3500HD Duramax DRW with 5,000lbs payload so not too worried about pin weight. I'm totally new to it all and don't like to make a 100 mistakes trying to figure it all out. Also, it only has a 30 Amp plug in. How do I take advantage of all that wattage? Thanks for any info/suggestions/tips you may have.

Mount it in the bed of your truck or add a rack to mount on the back of your rig. Thats a big heavy genny - you may have done better with two smaller ones that could be tied together and set up easier with a 50 amp connector.
It is not a good genny to mount internally but can likely be done if you are really handy.

To utilize 7000 watts or 60+ amps you will need to rewind your camper. You can’t get 60 amps through a 30 amp wire. 3500 watts is a little over 30 amps. If I were you I would get a 3500 watt predator from Harbor Freight and save a couple grand. 7000 watts is a waste. The built in units are 5500 watts.

I looked at the manual. It has both a 30A-120V (3 wire twist lock) and 30A-240V (4 pin twist lock) connectors so it does produce 60A total (through 30A each leg). There's a switch to control which plug is active (120V vs 240V). You'd want to use the 4-pin 240V connector.
If you mount it in the forward compartment, you'll have to separate it from the batteries and rest of the trailer with a sheet metal firewall like the gen prep kit has. You'll also have to wire in a transfer switch, controls for remote start and plumb an exhaust. I'm not sure the rules on the gas tank and vapors in an unvented compartment. It may be easier to keep it outside.

Nice answer - thanks. Pretty much the type of information I needed to know. I’d rather take the time to do that right and never be at a lack for power. I do plan on boondocking quite a lot in the Pacific Northwest and it can get pretty cold over here.

The only safe thing to do is to keep it outside. Sooner or later the CO2 will seep into the rig or you'll have to rig some elaberate exhaust system that the Honda wasn't built for. Also filling it with gas and the fumes could be another issue.

I’ve seen lots of folks running a generator on board. Not so sure why this would be that much different. A simple exhaust out the side or through the floor should fix that problem wouldn’t it? Also there’s plenty of air circulation on the underside of the fifth wheel where I’m going to be putting it. I guess I’m not understanding why my particular generator would be so much different than the Onan generator’s I see others installing.

A Honda generator will get hot and quit in that compartment. A considerable amount of work would be necessary to get a questionable result. Access for maintenance being #1.
The on board generators are specifically built for that application. I would put it in the bed of the pickup bolted down as someone else replied.

Advice duly noted. Enough opinions have suggested as much so that’s what I’ll do. Thanks to all for the input!

Fueling and SAFE exhaust removal would be his biggest problems to overcome non of which are a problem with the factory installed type.

If you've looked at the exhaust on the generator you notice there is a difference. To get an airtight seal you'll need to do some serious reworking on the case and the exhaust.

Thanks for the picture. Makes sense to mount on the truck for several reasons. I’ve got two 30amp outlets on the Honda, one 120 volt and a 120/240 volt. I need to get a 30amp/30amp male to 50amp female adapter made so I can utilize all the watts available.
Like this only it is 30/15 to 50

No you need a parallel kit. It utilizes the screw posts not the outlets, if you want to run 2 generators. I have 2 parallel kits still one is a Honda and the other is a firman, I can post pictures of you need to see them.

NEMA L14-30P to 14-50R 120V/240V Compact 30 Amp Twist Lock 4 Prong Male Plug to 50 Amp 4 Prong Female Receptacle

I would give my left nut to have that generator. I have no need for a generator that runs off propane even though my Montana has it from the factory. propane doesn't have enough energy and we don't have enough tankage to supply the boondocking that I would require out of a generator that's running on propane. Personally I like the idea that he's got going. There are plenty of remote exhaust kits that you can adapt the exhaust of that eu7000 to be exactly like an Onan but probably even better. As for the fuel you could always use portable outboard motor fuel tanks and a hose or something more permanent like a toy hauler has. As far as your 30 amp service all you need to do is take down the divider in your front cargo area and run a number 6 copper from the distribution panel to a generator transfer switch. then wire the one side
of the transfer switch to the new generator and the other leg to the existing 30 amp. You will have to consult diagrams which are readily available to separate the two legs of the 50 amps when in generator mode and parallel them when in 30 amp shore power mode. Better yet you could rewire your shore power connector to a 50 amp connector with two legs of #6 going to your generator transfer switch. That would be the best option. In any case you will end up with a better rig if you go 50 amps. I applaud you for getting the eu7000 Honda, I think it'd be a great system to have.

Unless your unit has the factory gen prep, I would also recommend keeping it outside. Aside from some of the operational challenges others have mentioned, the gen prep provides a firewall, heat resistant and noise insulation and proper exhausting for all fumes and gasses. Above all, keep safe!

Interesting I looked up the price of the 7000 anywhere between 2400-6600 that’s a huge price swing. Home Depot has it for 4500. I spent 5500 for the onan 6500 lp version no tax and free shipping. Just waiting on the stand and enclosure. The price difference is close and with the 7000 looks like you will get an extra 500 watts. I would definitely be interested in seeing how you do it very possible.
