MorRyde Independent Suspension
We are scheduled to have the MorRyde Independent Suspension added to our 2019 Montana 3121 mid November. We have the option of a 7K or 8K suspension. Which would you recommend and why?

Depends: What is your typical loaded for Travel weight?? If you know that you can make an informed decision.

Cat scales are your friend my friend. Scale receipts will tell you everything you need to know.

IS does not change your GVWR. I actually reduces your carry weight a few pounds as IS is heavier than your original suspension and axles. 7K axles should support your needs.

We have the exact same rig as yours and had I/S installed in 2020. We went with the 7k setup and hydraulic brakes and have had no issues with this setup. Best money we ever spent on our Montana.

I guess there is always a debate on going a little extra, it can’t hurt, but putting it on the scales makes the decision easier. Our model trailer leaves a lot of room for cargo, even fully loaded for the winter we are well under on the axles and gvwr, but your weights might be different. I don’t know the price difference between the 7 or 8K systems, but that would matter to me too if I was considering it just to have the extra capacity.
Good luck with it, I understand those are a great upgrade.

Getting 8K suspension when you only need 7K will make for a stiffer ride. That will negate some of the benefits of going IS. As others have said hit the scales and ask MorRyde for their advice based on your loaded weight

Here is MORryde's latest price list. Definitely talk with the installation team measuring up your unit and you need to provide them a current scale when you arrive. Talk numbers and what you want from the upgraded suspension system.

I have a 2008 Montana 3665 RE. I went to 8k IS with disk brakes in September and noticed it added exactly 1000lbs to my rigs overall weight! That is 1000lbs less product that can be carried in the trailer. The ride is much better, the stopping of the rig is significantly better, and I do not notice that I am hauling the trailer as I had with the solid axles. I haul my trailer with a Dodge 3500, 4x4, Mega Cab with single rear wheel.
Considering the added weight, I consider the 7k IS with disk brakes, but not certain I would change what I had done!
I pose this question to the forum. The weight that was added is under the chassis, and not into the trailer. I do not think this should add any additional stress to the chassis of the trailer nor have I seen any impact to the truck's performance. Thoughts?!

I don't understand the weight of your trailer after being weighed at the Cat. 10980 LBS? Your rig should be around 12280 LBS empty. Is that the difference between the tongue weight? No that can't be right. The difference is only 1300 LBS. Confused...

Tony,
The rest of the trailer weight is pin weight on the drive axle.

Hi Tony, yes, the rest, 3480#, is on the truck.
That day there was 3480# plus the 10980# for a total of 14460#. The trailer’s gvwr is 16350#.
I posted to show the original poster that on the 3121’s, at least the way we load it, there is still a lot of room left on the axles. No need really for 8k axles….Unless he just wants them.
Our scaled empty weight on the way home from the dealer on day one was 12600# with 2560# of that on the pin and 10040# on the axles.
Our model has very little storage aft of the axles, almost all cargo weight is in front of the axles and ends up being split just about evenly between axles and pin. That day there was 920# of cargo on the pin and 940# on the axle. I am trying to get my wife to hang less clothes in the closet

We had one Sheer Spring replaced at 7 years, had a slight tear but since that had it a part to check we had it replaced.
