I always start looking when I have 100 miles left in the tank just so I avoid that very situation. I only have a 26 gallon tank because i have the super cab.

the capacity in all the pickups is pretty minimal when towing

our volvo was 300 gallons; having that much fuel on board was amazing, rarely did we fill up during a trip

Thanks for everyone’s input on my question. Purchased a long bed this week and I am very happy with the bigger, much bigger fuel tank, the color and just about everything else about the truck.

Beautiful truck! Congrats.
Could you post a photo of the door jam sticker that shows carrying capacity?
Thank you.

All of my real trucks have been long beds. Now I did have a short bed 1/2 ton and a Chevy LUV way before that. I guess I could go back to a 1967 International short bed in the late 70’s. Ok back to the real world, long bed = no cab contact with no worrying. Nice 38 gallon tank on the old truck and a 48 gallon tank on the new truck, with no auxiliary tanks in the bed. Yes it is a PITA to turn around although the new truck DRW turns sharper than the old 2000 SD. Yes I go drive through Fast Food lanes with minimal problems. Yes my truck fits in either side of my garage with room to spare. No my truck is not a sports car and I don’t expect it to be able to do the stuff in town that my Honda Accord does, I also don’t tow with my Accord. You need to do what works for you and your lifestyle in your truck selection. I am happy with my selection.

Congratulations - nice truck!! It would even fit in my garage

And that LB - just remember it will not turn or park as easily as a SB - but that longer ride is better.

I too have a short bed Megacab, I don’t use my trucks like I use to. I also use my truck as a daily driver for work and as far as sliders just make sure you have a good quality hitch and do your home work.

The long bed has more room. It is a tow vehicle and not a daily driver. We have no problems with the long bed.

Thanks. The updated payload of the 2020’s has made my decision as to what truck to buy much more difficult. SRW or dually. SRW has the capacity but DW might inspire more confidence towing. But I’ll only tow a 5’er 3 or 4 times a year

You will really like that long bed, if like me, you have a hobby (woodworking and remodeling) that requires you to haul lumber. Being able to close the tailgate on a full sheet of plywood is great for the handyman!!

Having a removable hitch is essential for the same reason.

Beautiful truck O.P.

I certainly wouldn't mind having a longer bed, but for what I do the MegaCab interior space was a priority. They don't make a long bed MC, although I have seen after market conversions.

In addition to the huge interior space, I also appreciate the longer wheelbase of the MC for towing purposes.

Enjoy your new truck!

Truer words have never been spoken. It almost takes a roundhouse to turn ours around.

Adding my 2 cents. Just upgraded from a F-250 SB to a F-350 LB DRW for pulling the High Country. One day from home on a 10 day run with the camper. Love how the 350 LB Duelly pulls and rolls. So solid! Really happy.

Steve,
What gearing does your dually have? What speeds do you tow at? MPG?

I upgraded from a 2500 SRW to a 3500 DRW last February. The difference is wonderful.

The Ford has a 3.73 rear ending with the 6.7 diesel and 6 speed trans. We pull about 60 mph. Engine is turning about 1800 RPM. So far I am getting about 10.3 mpg. We were bucking a lot of wind on our way to Denver last week, but I think 10 mpg is going to be about our avg.

So far I am really liking the stability of the duelly!

Steve

Totally agree on the stability comments going from my 2500 SRW MegaCab to the 3500 dually MC.
Night and day difference, also loving the auto level rear suspension!
Tows the Monty like a dream... Also doesn't hurt at all to have the super low 1st and 2nd gear in the Aisin tranny.

I have towed now with two different short bed 1 tons . Ford Superduty crew cab , and the Ram Megacab, and there was a lot of difference in stability ,both SRW. As been said that Megacab is nearing the same length of a crew cab long bed .

You have basically gained a couple extra tires , and of course an increase in payload . But the same truck, wheelbase, bed length etc .IMO the MC is the best of two worlds ,one wanting a short bed ,and one wanting a dually . I even like the looks of the DRW MC, but I have no need for a dually , or for the matter a long bed .
