IMHO, I would not suggest to the OP to just "buy what you want". ...............
OK, I guess when I said payload rating "depending on configuration" I was clear enough. Obviously not. The payload ratings do go from low to high depending on configuration. He did not say specifically what he wanted beyond 250/2500.

No worries Bill,
I guess when I read the potential high numbers without noting the potential low numbers I thought that might be sending mixed messages for the OP.
I think we are saying the same thing with different words LOL

Rondo is right. You need to seriously check out all three trucks. The Chevy is a great truck. Do this for you. When you spend this kind of money make sure you bought the best truck for you not someone else. The only way you will know is to check them all out. Take your time it’s no hurry. To get what you exactly want might order one. I always do. Don’t buy a bunch of options you don’t need and can’t find. You can go to their web sites and build your truck then go to the dealer negotiate a price and order it.

Don't forget in your weight equation you also have to include passenger, two of four legged, plus the weight of the hitch and anything else you might put into the bed of the TV, this all subtracts from the cargo capacity.

With a trailer of that size and GVWR you will eventually overload a 2500. If safety and legality matters to you then choose wisely.

Regarding brands, the Ram will cost less to maintain and has time tested drivetrain components. The Ford will have better fit and finish but they keep using "new and improved" components, many of which are experimental, leaving the owner to deal with in the long run.

I just went through the same situation. I had an f250 to pull my 32ft Open Range and it handled it with power to spare, 7500lbs with a wdh. We now have upgraded to a 3120rl and choose to go with the Ram 3500 SRW 6.7 because after a lot of reading and calculation of numbers there is no way an f250 would have been legal or safe after completely loading the trailer for travel. I know anyone can manipulate the numbers to work in their favor but please just be safe for yourself and the family. JMO, best of luck with your decision.

First off are you full time or part time RVers? What are your future plans? IF full time and you have big plans consider that while the 2500 can tow it now, it will be most likely less truck than you need. What happens if you decide to add some goodies to your rig, Stuff has a way of accumulating both in your RV and in the truck bed. SO yeah I would stay away from 2500s. SRW 3500 at a minimum. 2800-3000 lbs pin weight mentioned earlier seem about right, but you have to consider that all the gear in your truck plus the pin weight will test your payload specs for any SRW3500. But if what you describe is typical for you, the SRW 3500 will do the job 99% of the time. If you want FORD get FORD, same for RAM or even GM. All have made huge strides in performance, ride, cab comfort, technology and engineering... you really can't go far wrong with any choice. Except gas. Diesel is the best towing set up. The best truck to tow would be dually 3500 at a minimum but that is not on your radar so lacking an alternative, think hard about 3500 SRW... you cannot put a price tag on peace of mind and more a capable truck for towing gives you that in spades.

Just incase Gubs has not left the building......
have you figured out your pin weight?
I know Ford makes some 1Ts that handle GVWR of 12K

I am sure the Ram would do you good also, but my experience is with the Ford. Good luck!
Your truck may pull and tow your unit great, however I suspect you are towing beyond your trucks designed payload capacity.
I would be willing to bet that the pin weight of your unit by itself is above the CCC on your yellow door sticker. (post a pic of it )
My friends brand new 2020 f350 diesel trucks door sticker states 3100lbs.
Yours is likely in the 2000-2300lbs range.

Any 250/2500 truck will be way over it's GVWR with that RV....with a GVWR of around 16k. You're in dually country.

Not necessarily dually, but definitely F350/3500 with that weight. My 3791RD has a GVWR of 16,600. My F350 SRW is just under the weight limits, granted with little margin for error.

I believe he has left the building. I see this discussion all the time over on RV Net, Some are just convinced for whatever reasons that they don't need or want the 1 ton. I never gave it a second thought as far back as 1998 when I purchased my first diesel the early 99 Superduty, have continued with a 1 ton ever since.

I bought the 99 towing a 26' travel trailer, hardly needed for that ,but knowing I was going to fifth wheel eventually.

I'll say it, I'm biased...but just remember what the difference is between a 250 and a 350SRW, a spring and higher rated tires. You're the driver and are responsible.

As said this discussion has been going on for as long as I can remember. Yup ,just a leaf spring ,and higher rated tires . Who would want a little extra safety margin

I've heard that is similar with GM trucks?

It is definitely not the case with RAM trucks, at least not for the last several years.
For the RAM 2500, they moved to rear coil springs, I think back in 2014. That makes for a great riding heavy duty pickup, but it is totally different than the 3500's which use a more traditional leaf spring pack. And, the coils are set inboard a bit on the rear of the 2500's; loading up heavy the rear could be more apt to sway.

So, if considering RAM, I think the choice might be a bit more clear; for heavy towing, get the 3500 to get the sturdier rear suspension.

Brad

Don't have to guess The truck specs are posted on the truck the RV specs on the side of the RV. Weigh the truck ready to tow. Weigh the RV loaded and ready to pull do the math. My 08 F-350 Diesel, Dually, Long bed crew cab loaded ready to tow weighed in at 9250 lb.

Don't forget the silly little yellow sticker on the door jamb which states the payload capacity you should never exceed

For reference my 2011 - F-250 diesel crewcab - 4X4 weighed 8100# with just me, no cargo and partial fuel. That leaves you just 1900#'s for the DW, fuel, hitch, cargo and trailer. Ain't happening!

I pull a High Country 353 RL (13000#'s GVW) and I was 1200#'s overweight. Same trailer now with a F-350 diesel duelly. Yes it pulled fine but it was not right.
