HamMer TimE

This happened yesterday on I81. This is why I put disk brakes on the camper after the last darling came out of the left lane then to cut me off and slammed on her brakes while I was trying to mind my own business in the right lane so she could make the off ramp. Inches from collision I blew my horn and she flipped off as she was heading up the off ramp.. Didn`t have the camera then but I do now for MY protection.
This one can be seen accelerating just before she lost it in the pouring rain and hydroplaned with a child car seat in the back and hits the wall at 0:17. With to much traffic on the left , my only escape was to head to the right and lock up the brakes. Anti lock brakes can be heard doing their job, about 2 ft. from collision with this one. I just waited for the traffic to clear and left. With hands shaking we pulled into the next rest stop and took a break.
What the brain dead drivers don`t realize is we are rolling sledge hamMers that will eat your little car alive with 11 tons or more of camper and truck. In any accident the one that transfers the most energy will win and they are the ones that will go to the Morgue.
What I witness on the highways now just scares me to travel anywhere near a town or city. Roller skate cars driven by the ones with the little hair balls on top of there heads are the worst and I try to stay away from them by driving at the speed limit or a little less so they pass me. I`ve been passed by them on the right shoulder if they can`t do it on the left, tailgated for no reason, brake checked more than once, flipped off, cokes thrown out the window at me. I mean what`s the point of tailgating in the right lane? Click on the link to watch
I have a new bumper sticker on the back of the camper it says "I`m retired go around.

Glad it worked out for you! Wouldn't tow without disk brakes. On our 2010 Joyce thought I was just wanting the best toys. We weren't a mile from Morryde when a similar thing happened, just no rain. When we bought the 2017 Joyce wanted to know how soon before we went to Morryde.

Drivers today

I have been a truck driver for over 30 years, the drivers on the road today both cars and trucks have no common sense or courtesy. It makes me wonder how they got their licenses, its a scary world out there, i wish everyone a safe travels.

I'd not have been able to stop like that with my drum brakes!

More info

What was your speed, seemed to be about the same as the car that hydroplaned. Obviously the car was traveling too fast for the weather and road conditions. We each need to be aware of our truck/trailer stopping ability and adjust speed and distancing accordingly. I dislike those that pass and then cut in front prematurely causing me to slow to restore distancing.

Nice job on getting that stopped! I'm on the road always in a medium duty truck or my F450 bucket truck. You truly see it all out there. Driving too fast, aggressive and wreckless and always with the phone to their ears or texting. I love the ones who slalom through the cars like a skier. But even worse is the condition of the cars of these drivers. Fenders and quarter panels smashed in with rusted jagged metal. Tires are bald and aimed every which way. Headlights that only work on high beams. I was passed by a car last week that had 2 donut spare tires on it. One in the front and one in the back. I'm pretty sure it only came with one originally. Just very dangerous self important, arrogant people!

I 81

You were very lucky to get through that stretch of I 81 from Va. line to Maryland without an incident. For the past three years it has been a death trap with stupid drivers, prolonged construction, poor road conditions and multiple fatalities. Very little police presence except for a dummy cruiser with no one in it. Glad you made it through safely. Heads up to anyone headed through WV on 81, find another way!

That was very close.....I'm shocked all I heard was your windshield wiper blades, and not some serious expletives. On another note, what camera system are you using?

That's what I am wondering. How did you edit your comments out? Had to be some.

I particularly like the ones that are behind and hit the accelerator to cut you off as soon as your turn signal flashes to change lanes; very considerate. You know they did it; their acceleration coincides with the first flash of your signal.

Nope I cut the part out that shows her passing me at a rate about what a human runs. 10 MPH, I was doing 60 because of the rain if you look at he video at point 00:12 is where she moves faster. She accelerates and pulls away from me at a faster rate then hits the wall.
No I didn`t cuss at her and say what I wanted to cause the wife was there, blood pressure was already up.
There is no excuse for not have disk brakes with these 40` beasts, like others have said "Never again will I own a large camper with out them". $1500 dollars in parts and an afternoon to put them on. Just not worth it to not have them.
If your interested I have a thread called "Disk brakes.... WOW" you can look up on here from sometime ago where I was done with the factory brakes and made the change over, 6 pages of comments did follow.
