Pocket Door Track
Need some ideas here. During our last trip, it seems that the sliding pocket door track lost 4 of the 6 screws holding the track to the ceiling. And wouldn't you know it, it is the 4 screws back in the pocket, not the two over the stairs. I finally got the door removed (what a chore that was), but now I can't figure out how the put the screws back in. the pocket opening is way too skinny for my arm to even get back in there. I have the 2011 3580RL. There is a wall behind the refridgerator on one side preventing me from going in that way and a wall behind the shower preventing me from going in that way. I need a long skinny arm... If I figure out how to get in there i plan on adding some wood glue to the screws to prevent them from working their way out in the future. Anyone had this problem before. Let me know.
Thanks,
Don

We just had the same problem. I couldn't figure out an easy way to get in there. I just dropped ours off at our dealers this morning to get the damage repaired for our tire failure and asked them to fix the door too.

It is easy to replace the screws holding the pocket door track with the right tools. I made a long extension by welding a 1/4" rod to a phillips bit. Put the rod in a cordless or electric drill and tape the screw to the phillips bit with a little tape. The screws will go in at a angle, but that won't hurt anything.

Once you get the track back up and tight I would shoot a couple extra screws in it. I had this problem on my old Alpenlite and I added some extra screws and then after that when we traveled I bought some of those plastic door wedges to wedge into the bottom. It helped brace it till we sold it a few years later. Now the Montana???? my pocket door is over the stairs and there is about a foot to foot and a half space so the wedges won't work. I cut a board that wedges both under the door and wedges it in tight side to side. So that door don't move no ways.

No tool box should be without one....

Flexible screw driver extentions.....may need to guide it with a grabber tool but should work!

Had the same issue within the first 6 months. Dealer removed the shower wall and cut a hole in that wall to get to the screws. After he got the pocket door reattached, I added a stained 2x2 with the leading end beveled at 45 degrees to the area under the pocket door when it is in the stored or travel position/location. This has eliminated the up and down stress that occurs during travel and still allows the pocket door to slide back and forth. We apply a little soap to the underside of the door once or twice a year. Works great in dry climates, but drags a little when we visit humid parts of the country. Have been looking for a thin nylon strip to replace the soap, but have not found one thin enoungh or that will stay attached that well.

My screws fell out too, so I used a dremel with the flexible extension to drill new holes into the metal bar for new screws. I could not get my arm all the way back to put the original screws in, so that's why I drilled new ones.
You need someone very small with skinny arms. )

If you can wait until January, come over to Quartzsite where Nailbendr and 8.1AL (Charlie: where is your picture with the tool?) will be. They both have a long tool built specifically to re-install the screws in a pocket door track. Plus you will get to meet a crowd of other MOCers.

How do you get the door out? I think I also have a screw (or two) loose or missing at the rear of the door.

Had the same problem and had the dealer do the repair. Then I cinched up the strap that holds the door so that there was no slack to allow the door to move. As an added measure I put a second strap cinched tight at the bottom of the door. So far so good.

What the heck is a pocket door? I have always been told I have some screws loose and should probably check those too.

Its really hard to see, but if you open the door, there are 2 hangers attached to the top of the door.
On this hanger, there is a swing arm that hooks onto the rollers that are in the track.

Just one more thing that we should not have to deal with. Very poor workmanship and too big a hurray to get them out the door. Haven't had the problem YET, but expect it to happen in the future due to the poor construction.

I bought a piece of 3/8 rod at Home Depot and made a long driver similar to Nailbenders. He may have been the one that gave me the idea, if so thanks. Once the door was off this allowed me to tighten the loose screws and I added many more. This works well and doesn't require any holes in the walls
