Edge Chip
Just traded my 2004 F350 for a 2011 F350 with 36k on it. I have a programable Edge "Evolution CS Diesel" that can be updated to the 2011. Love it on my '04 and just wondering if anybody is using one on the 2011 and their thoughts. Thank you

Not sure I would mess with chips the way many ford dealers look for any opportunity to void warranties. Having said that, the difference between my 2005 6.0 and my 2011 6.7 is remarkable, and I think you will find that stock 6.7 will deliver all the power you need and then some. Awsom Engine with the six speed transmission.

I have a 2011 6.7 F350 DRW there is now way I need to chip it. You should have all the power you need with the 6.7 compared to your old truck. Have you towed with it yet?

DW &I bought a 2011 F-350 mid December and it sat in the snow behind the house until a few weeks ago because we didn't want to expose it to all the salt and slop on the WI roads, so when we had some nice days we dug it out and headed north to our soon to be summer headquarters. There is no way that horse needs more oats. Nope. I wouldn't put a chip in there if someone gave it to me!!!!!!

I guess its all in what you are looking for, the Evolution(and many other tuners) can give HP gains, Increased Fuel Milage, allow for deletion of pollution equipment(increasing engine life by eliminating EGR system), transmission tuning, engine monitoring that the factory only dreamed of, reduced EGT's. Programming can do alot more then just increase horsepower and torque. It can be a real handy system. It can also(will void engine warranty), blow head gaskets, melt down piston and eat transmissions. It is just like any other tool, used properly, alot of good things can come from tuning, so can alot of bad if missed used. They haven't built the perfect engine/transmission combo yet, if they had we all be driving it.

Yes they have, it's in the Silverado and Sierra.

Nope, I have the new Silverado, torque curve isn't quite low enough in the RPM band for me and the 3rd to 4th shift is alittle early, but other then that, its really great. Mileage was good for the first pull across 2 states, I like it, so far. In 80-90,000 miles I will know more.

I can not see a need for a chip on these new deisels They are MONSTERS! even my old 2003 duramax does good with our 40 fter without a chip but if you are a real speed freak what the heck if you have one already, I'd be worried about the warranty

There is no such thing as too much horsepower. It may be more than you want or can handle. Just use that long skinny pedal on the right side.

If I want to get my speed fix I jump in my 350Z Not my truck, I'm thinking going 100+MPH around a corner with my Monty would not work out too good

I do have the Edge Race Evolution w/DPF pipe delete though. I've played with it all the way to level 7, which is absolutely insanely fast. It stays on level 2, it gives me the best of all worlds. Any higher while towing and it writes a check the injector pump can't deliver on when climbing long steep grades. I don't have to put up with the mileage loss with regeneration cycles now.

Agree. If you need to "chip" an engine, you don't have enough engine. Some MH manufacturers put the small 5.9 or 6.7 Cummins in big MHs...it's not enough...a wonderful engine, but not enough for a big MH pulling a toad.

Unlike gas engines, early diesels left a lot of performance back at the factory and chips/programmers were able to provide huge gains in performance. But like others have warned about, the gains will only work if other parts of the engine, exhaust, intake and trans were changed to support the extra oomph. This is why manufacturers will void their warranty.
Modify away if you desire. I think the amount of power left on the floor for newer diesels is less than before. I think all the OP is asking about is for info from members who have done what he'd like to do. Like hooker reminds us, many power plants are put in many engines or TVs and it's up to the individual to decide what to do from there, however there are many "Tim the Toolman"s out there who want to make their diesels scream some more.
BUT... if something goes wrong, don't blame the messenger. I'm happy with what I've got. I had a prior truck with a Banks system and while it was awesome, I don't have a need to go 90 mph up a hill any more (the scream was awesome too. It was more like a faint high pitched whine as the power kicked in). Yeah baby. Too bad I didn't put in the Banks braking system, heh-heh.

My guess is you don't need the chip in the 6.7 from what I see. I have the old 7.3 that I chipped but also had to put an exhaust temp gauge in, exhaust brake (which you also don't need) and a torque lock for the tranny, and a new tranny since then. I like the chip, but it doesn't come cheap. If I wasn't going out west and in the mountains I would probably not do this as the east only has a few hills where its nice.
