Filling fresh water tank.

I seem to remember from years past a post about filling fresh water tank using the on board pump when dry camping. Any help would be appreciated.

On our unit, you hook up city water (hose) in the convenience center and turn the lever to tank "fill" from "normal." Water flows to the tank.

He was asking about dry camping situations. I am curious to know how that would be done as well.

1. Set fill lever from Normal to Power Fill, this directs the flow to the fresh water tank.

2. Hook a hose from the container/bladder that has your water in it to the Winterize connection in the convenience center. Make sure to have an air-tight seal at this connection, or the pump will not draw the water from the container (some use two rubber washers). It also helps to elevate the container so you have less head (water column height to the pump) to maximize flow rate.

3. Turn on the on-board pump.

4. Wait patiently.

Alternative:

If you have a 12volt auxiliary pump that you can use directly between your water container/bladder and the trailer, hook the hose to the City Water connection, and turn the fill lever to Power Fill. Basically, the same way you would fill from a faucet. ....and if your aux pump has a better pressure and flow rate than your on-board pump, it will be quicker.

I'm confused, do you need to move the power fill switch at all if you hook a hose to fresh water female to fill tank... Trying to fill my water tank at my house before we leave to dry camping for the first time with our new 2014 3625re. Any chance of over filling tank? Assume it would come out tank vent on side?

Thanks. Always thought we would never dry camp....

Thanks in advanced...

We dry camp a lot. Turn lever to fill, then connect a hose. I have a small harbor freight pump i use to pump from a water jug into the trailer.
Remember after filling tank turn lever back to normal.

Was told at the Factory Service Center to watch the fresh tank monitor, and stop when it lights up as "full". You can't wait until water spews out of the vent, it can't keep up with incoming water volume after all the air is gone out of the tank.

I have a 60 gal water bladder that i put on the roof of my truck that i would fill up where ever you could get water, then when I get back to my Monty I run my hose from the bladder to the fresh water tank fill on the outside of the trailer, the water bladder is higher then the trailer holding tank so its just a matter of gravity doing its thing, when you boon dock you cant let your pump run so much it would kill the battery. There's no need to switch any thing when you do it like this.I also put a blanket under the water bladder so that it does not scratch anything.

Thanks a lot for all the responses to my question. I will be dry camping in Key West and try this procedure.

The concept is to use the Winterize water hose connection and put the other end in the water source. You turn on the onboard pump and it should suck in water and take a prim to suck the water from the bladder into the unit.

Then you open the water fill valve and the water is dumped into the holding tank.

I have not tried it. Instead I bought an outside pump to go between my bladder and the trailer.

Good luck and safe travels.

The 2010 Montana's will have a water fill in the back of the trailer. The later models and I am not sure if it was 2012 or 2013 that they eliminated the water fill and you have to use the switch over valve.

I know this is an old topic, but a lot of the issues are covered. I tried this method today to avoid dragging the Monty out of the storage lot just to put in 10 gallons of water so the toilet would have water in case it's needed for the 8 hour trip to the Mid Atlantic Rally.

SO my question is how long should this take?? It took me 30-45 minutes to pump it using the freeze guard port and the levers turned to freeze guard and power fill. It took awhile to get the flow started. That may have been the long hose I was using. I had a 10 gallon water cooler, used a 50' potable water hose. I added an extra washer in the Freeze guard port to make sure I had a tight connection. Even though the onboard pump is 3 gallons a minute, it didn't work that fast doing this fill.

Thoughts??

I think I read on another post here that if you don't have the gravity fill valve on your unit you can just pop the fresh water vent cover off and gravity fill your tank. Remember that the water will have to travel through the vent tube all the way to the tank. I have not tried it but you can do a search and probably find the post.

What I found out from my test today was it's faster to tow the Monty to a city water faucet.

Dam Worker is correct. I used this method to add to fresh tank so I could rinse with outside shower as I washed the 5er. I used a cheap plastic siphon as I could get the water carrier higher than the vent opening. The vent cover is a little hard to remove but you just have to pull hard.Be careful not to lose the little screen cover in the vent tube. Montana High Country 305RL 2014.
