Potential disaster?

Sorry to show you pictures of my potty. But On my 2021 376FL HC with a Dometic stool I’m worried there’s an issue going to occur someday when a slow leak ends up emptying my tank and flooding my camper while I’m out. Has anyone else seen this slow leak occur? I’m not 100% sure that it is a long-term leak or if it’s just emptying out the line/bowl. This is the third time I’ve seen it in the last six months and I’m glad I got it on camera. But I think I can replicate it by not slamming the foot pedal valve closed, just slowly releasing it.

Suffice it to say I’m concerned and so I turn the pump off and disconnect the valve outside as often as I can remember. Disappointed that I cannot see a emergency drain hole in this toilet either to prevent flooding. Is this a known issue?

The potty in question in the photo. You can hear a bit of an uneven drip drip.

The first thing I'd attempt to do is use a stiff toilet brush and brush all around the hole in the toilet where the slide valve slides. Sometimes, small pieces of crud get's caught on the rubber seal preventing the slide blade from closing completely. Normally, this allows water to drain on down into the tank, and also allowing black tank oders to come up.

But in your case, it's possible some crud on the rubber slide seal could prevent the slide itself from closing completely, allowing for a very slight drip, but the seal in the bottom is sealed, thus causing a risk the bowl could potentially fill up with water and overflow.

This is another reason why I never hook up directly to shore water and run everything from a garden hose. I always fill my fresh water tank and use my on-board water pump. Whenever water run anywhere, the water pump will kick on. Even very slight leaks, or a faucet not turned off completely, or the toilet slide not closing completely will kick on the water pump and then we can hear it run. When it does, we know water is going somewhere and I always check things out. Other than the ice maker kicking on, we've caught water drips at all the faucets and toilet many many times this way, when they just did not get turned off tight.

I've also measured how much water it takes to kick on the on-board water pump. It takes less than 2 ounces of water running for the water pump to kick on. With no pressure tank installed, that's not much water. So, if a drip occurs, and you hear the pump kick on when it shouldn't, at most, it's only leaked less than 2 ounces of water, not enough to hurt anything, and yet, the sound of the pump let's you know something is not right...giving you time to check it out.

Looks to me like you are saying your water fill valve is not always closing completely. This will also be an issue by using up your fresh water and filling up your black tank too soon.

I would call Dometic. They will probably send you a replacement valve under warranty. It is modular and easy to put in.

Cody,

Its good to turn your water off if you are leaving the rig for more than an hour or two.

this may explain it more.

also found this in the manual
Residual water trickle in the ceramic
bowls: Due to the integrated rim of the
models 310, 311, 320, and 321 toilets,
water may continue to trickle into the
toilet bowl for up to 20 minutes after
flushing. If the water trickle continues
after 30 minutes, replace the water valve.
Refer to “Replacing the Water Valve” on
page 14.
hope this helps

that's been our experience with Dometic toilets in three different Montanas over 11 years of full timing. Some drips after flush, but we've never had an issue with the valve not closing.

Our Dometic 310 has done this since new, over seven years, and the valve is not leaking. This is just residual water in the water passage around the perimeter of the bowl, and as soon as the water has drained into the bowl, the 'dripping' will stop.

Same experience as Bob ... it seeps out, then quits after a few minutes. Have you ever experienced a full bowl or just an inch or so in the bottom?

These RV toilets are designed to dribble a bit of water to cover the ball/gasket because there's no P-trap to stop sewer gases.

It’s normal drip as everyone else pointed out. Still recommend shutting Off water and pump when you leave and never leave the pump on going down the road !!!

We've seem to notice our Dometic 320 toilet seems to drip more/longer @ campgrounds with low water pressure during peak times early morning / Evening time when more water being used .Never filled the bowl though. .Gonna add a shut off valve behind toilet as a safety measure. Home depot has the pec tubing shut off valve.

Thanks everyone for all of the advice. I'm going to pay close attention to it this weekend and see if it is indeed a leak or not. Appreciate the feedback and I'll report back what occured.

Word of advice .
When winterize make sure to break waterline off back of toilet & let valve drain . That valve holds lots of water & will freeze & crack.
2 yrs ago got to a RV park & when i turned water on wife start screaming turn it off . 35.00 valve & 300.00 bucks later for a mobile RV tech to repair . Didn't have the tools or knowledge for a DIY repair.

Recommend inside shut off behind toilet at base for a just in case issue.

When winterizing confirm you are flushing plenty of pink thru the toilet and all should be good

Here in South Texas we only use compressed air to blow out lines . Blew all lines except the water trapped in the flush valve . That was an extremely cold winter for us & cracked the toilet valve . Now on our Montana High Country 295RL since we have the winterize/ water heater bypass valves will probably go the Antifreeze route.
