New tires and wheels

Well here’s to hoping there will be no more tire failures. I’m taking a hopefully proactive approach and using 19.5 commercial continental tires with boar wheels. They are about 1.5-2.0 inches taller which is good in my situation I needed a little more height but I’ll see when I take it out what it looks like. I did double check clearances and everything looks good.

Nice tires. If you decide you don't like them, they would be perfect on my F-450 I like the wheels too.

What ply rating are tires like that?

I like those wheels by the way. Simple, yet, make a statement...

Had no idea needed to look it up. So these are over the highway approved tires commercial. I found they are 14 ply. But yes these are f450 tires

I was worried about going to the 85's from 235/80R16 with tire clearance on the plastic wheel wells. They're only about an inch taller. Do you foresee any issues with scrubbing in tight turns? I have to round a cul-de-sac every time I bring the rig to the house.
Those boar wheels sure do look nice though!

I don’t believe there will be an issue with tight turns. I’m also in a cul de sac but after I pull my rig out I back out of the cul de sac, than back into the cul de sac. If that makes sense lol. I have 1 area that’s questionable that I’m going to trim but that’s for verticals travel not sure how much travel are in these suspensions, but going to trim to be safe.

Also installed sumosprings to help. I installed those before I took it down to have the new roof put on seemed less bouncy. I’ll still trim that 1 piece though.

BOAR Wheel Clearance

The new configuration will add approximately 1 inch to the diameter. This means 1/2 inch higher lift off the ground, which may or may not make you want to take a look at the rig’s level when hitched up (depending on how happy you were previously). This means a loss of 1 inch between the two axle’s tire spread, which you should be concerned about if you started with less than four inches previously. You need sufficient clearance to “throw” out a piece of wood etc. And last, but certainly not least, you lose 1/2 inch between the top of the tire and “anything” on the RV - this is where you may find the need to trim-the-trim. Please also check that you won’t rub any part of the frame if that axle maximizes its lift when going over a speed bump, pot hole, etc. You will also find that the new configuration may be just a little bit wider than the original. Having said all of this, I was able to replace the originals on my Pinnacle, but not on my new Montana. Hence my nearly-new set of BOARs being for sale at less than half of retail as we speak.

I’m not sure the clearance differences between mine and yours but for mine I will trim 1 small corner on the drivers side rear fender. There is plenty of travel above all the tires for them to articulate and with the sumosprings installed I’m hoping for a smoother suspension ride. So far so good but only towed it twice with the sumosprings installed seemed nicer but that could also be a self serving bias in play. Currently I have 4.5 inches of space between the 2 tires and I’m not concerned about that. I believe they are just barley wider but the wheel offset makes them look narrower, and with that I crawled under and made sure there was sufficient clearances all but 1 tiny portion I will cut.

Almost forgot yes the added height will help, the truck sits level but the rear sat oh so slightly off level, just enough for my ocd (which I don’t have) to kick in….

1/2 price dang I should have held out lol

Nice looking wheels!
Did they ship them to you with the tires already mounted on the wheels?
Did you buy a spare?
What psi do the tires run at?

Yes already mounted and balanced. Ecso, guess there’s little something like balls in there that balance the sheen as you drive no idea lol

Yes bought a spare
They run at 110

Made in the USA except the center caps.

BOAR Wheel Continental Tires

You do not have to order the made-in-USA Continental tires, but why wouldn’t you? They’re rated at 87 mph, and my TPMS never showed them getting excessively hot even at a steady 65 mph in the desert in the summer. BOAR Wheel included a new set of lug nuts for me, so all nice and shiny! BTW, while I will not travel without a spare, I do not foresee ever needing to put it on, so I ordered from BOAR a plain old steel rim and their recommended made-in-China tire as a spare at a fraction of the cost of a fifth rim/tire combination. The Continentals are available through most commercial tire dealers, so even if I had to install the spare it would only be until the next Pilot/Flying J etc. Which reminds me, these guys are heavy, so be sure to check on the load limit of your spare tire carrier underneath your 5th. The lifting/locking cable on my Pinnacle needed to be replaced as this combo exceeded its load limit by too much for my liking.

I said screw it and ordered the complete spare to match the other 4. I don't think I will need it but you never know ! I have yet to crawl under to remove the sailun spare tire, but I will look at the load max and plan accordingly. Thanks for the heads up on that !

Yes you don't have to get the continental tires, they had others available but at the end I went with their recommendation of the continental.

Those look great! I would feel much better with those tires and wheels on some of the rough pavement that I have been driving on this year. Congratulations and please keep us informed.

We run 235/85- 16 Sailuns on our 3400 RL and haven't had any problems.

No problems with our Sailuns either, but then we aren’t pulling a 17,000 lb TT with a SRW TV?
Oh well, add some more “sumo” springs!
