Newbie in IL...

Hello
I am Bryon, and my wife Cyndee and I just purchased a 2017 Montana 3820FK....as I am 6'5" tall...this design really called us once we saw it. It will both be temporary housing to me when working far from home (Ft. Worth, TX) as well as housing for when we travel in retirement...

We are LONG time tent campers....from more years with Scouts than can be counted; but Cyndee's dad was a committed RV'er

This is our first RV...the pop up we pull behind our motorcycle is not an RV .... but truly a leap...We researched for over 6 months to try and figure out what questions to ask, let alone what RV we should purchase...

To be honest, we stumbled into our Montana...but looking forward to all it can be

Hoping for helpful hints, tips, and other suggestions and planning to provide what help we can to others

Thanks
Bryon

Welcome to MOC Fourm! We live on Lake Livingston. What are your favorite campgrounds a fifth wheel will fit in in Texas? First thing to check is the age of tires - if close to four years old strongly consider going to G Rated tires?

Bryon, welcome to the forum. You will find lots of helpful tips, assistance with questions and lots of ways to spend money. Remember, we were all newbies at one point in our RV lives. There is no such thing as a dumb question, so ask away. Chances are, someone else has the same one. May you and Cyndee have many trouble free miles and make wonderful memories.

Welcome Aboard Bryon and Cyndee! You have found the best place to find out more about your Montana and as rames14 states there is no such thing as a dumb question so fire away and the experts will help you out. Think about joining us in Goshen, Indiana (where your Montana was born) come September for the National Fall Rally. It's a great place to learn about your rig and to meet some fellow Montana owners too. Just keep watching the Forum for more details on the Fall Rally and when you can sign up for it. There are great sessions throughout the whole week from many of the OEM manufacturers that Keystone Montana buy from for the units besides some great meals and tours that week also. Again Welcome Aboard and enjoy that 3820FK.

Welcome here.
This is really good advice. We have saw so many campers there a tire blew out and took the side off of someone’s camper. We here have a name for the standard ST tires that came on campers about your model it’s China Bombs. It’s a well deserved name.

Byron, after checking tires, you may also want to check the hub bearings, and brakes.
Also, inspect the roof and maybe disinfect the water system.

Bryon, welcome to the forum! Don’t ever be afraid to ask a question here. Lots off great information and a lot of “old timer’s” knowledge! Happy camping! I am 6’4” and the first thing I do when we are shopping for a new rig is stand in the shower. If I can comfortably fit there, I will look at the rest of the rig. We are full timers with 3 fivers. A 2018 38’ DRV which is our “home base” , a 2019 3121rl Montana which we travel in and a 375 HC on acreage we own in the mountains of SE NM. Enjoy your new rig!

Welcome, this is a great forum.
In my opinion the most important thing is getting to your destination SAFELY. For me that means from where the rubber touches the ground to the mounts where the springs attach to the frame.
I put most of my maintenance efforts into tire pressure, hub grease, wet bolt grease and rust mitigation of anything in the suspension. This at least gives me piece of mind that I (not someone else) have touched and cared for the area that causes the most damage, time and money.
Like the vast majority of us you will love the life.
