Wet bolts or dry bolts?

Just returned from a trip with our 2015 3582RL and was doing a post trip inspection & maintenance. Found the LR tire was about to show steel cord on the inside, so I bought four new tires and upgraded from the GY load E tires to Sailun S637 load G. Also discovered the RR hanger bolt & yellow cams were missing!! Don't know how long it was like that on this trip, but the spring was still in the3 hanger and there doesn't seem to be any damage. It is the Correct Track system.

Now comes the problem. I can't seem to identify, with confidence, what replacement bolt I need. Keystone lists a local dealer as an authorized service center near me, but they will only service units they have sold. Their parts department supposedly looked up the bolt and gave me a part number (Keystone #297698) for a kit of four bolts. The bolts arrived, but they are too short. They look like bolts for the shackles, not the hangers. Does anybody have the correct part numbers I need for the bolts & cams? And can you suggest a source of supply? Direct from Lippert or some secondary source?

Lastly, is there any definitive guidance concerning wet bolts versus dry bolts?? A local (commercial/utility) trailer shop said they don't use or recommend wet bolts any more due to breakage. If dry bolts are preferable, I can get what I need from them, but still need part number and source for the hanger cams.

If you have the correct track system, I'd give Lippert a call. They should know what size bolts are used on their system. If memory serves, they are about 1/2" or more longer than the standard bolts to account for the cam.
My 2019 has wet bolts all the way around. I haven't had a problem with breakage, but there are alternatives. IMO, it is a personal preference thing, but my rig came with them, so I'm keeping them that way.
With the weight of your rig, you should have had better than load range E tires. Your new Sailuns should do the trick.

I had to call Lippert because I couldn’t even find them on their own web site. Suggest you buy several extra bolts and plates as I think that they will be hard to find in the future.

I’d simply measure the length of bolt needed and order accordingly … I won’t use anything but wet bolts and bronze bushings

Also..since you have the Lippert correct track remove the yellow plates and inspect the bolt hole..

It should be a uniform slot ( this is for adjustment ) and if you see an area in that slot that’s elongated ( which I bet you will ) then you need new spring hangers for the Lippert correct track..

I’m not fond at all of the correct track and am glad I have a full Dexter only suspension with standard spring hangers

That missing yellow cam, if I'm not mistaken is used to align your axle, if missing your axle my be grossly out of alignment added to the tire wear.
You need to get everything back to original and then seek an alignment shop.

Although Lippert makes the frame, the Suspension (including Correct Track) is a MorRyde product. I would see which suspension product you have and contact MorRyde. Also, I would stay away from any suspension shop that thinks plastic liners with dry bolts is better than wet bolts with bronze bushings. We helped my brother-in-law change shackles and dry bolts on a gravel parking lot in Alaska. It wasn’t fun. Good luck.

Do you happen to have the part number for the bolts you ordered? I spend 45 minutes with Lippert this morning. They were unable to identify any wet bolts for the Correct Track cams. They had only one wet bolt (#126197) but the body (shoulder to threads) measures only 2.82" and measurement of hangers seems to indicate I need a 3" bolt

You really should start looking at your suspension after every two after you’ve set up and when you return home.

You need a 9/16 bolt with 7/16 threads that’s 3 3/8 to 3 1/2 inch in length to accommodate the two yellow octagon plates on either side of the spring hangers

Same bolt will work on the shackles unless you have the cheap thin link bars

I do not like the correct tract system at all.. but it’s just my personal preference

Personally if you don’t have wet bolts and bronze bushings I would yank all of them and install wet bolts and bronze bushings

I am also not fond of the “Never Fail” bushings

My Dexter OEM wet bolts and bronze bushings are now 9 years old.. the bushings and bolts are in excellent shape because I grease before every tow

I replaced all my wet bolts with dry bolts and installed new bronze bushings. However I put plenty of grease in each one. I like the idea that each bolt was 9/16 all the way through. I purchased them from a commercial trailer sales dealership. The plastic bushings were toast. Would not recommend them.

I ended up ordering the above bolt & nut from MorRyde (at MUCH cheaper prices than from Lippert) only to have MorRyde ship the wrong length bolt (attached pic). After calling, they quickly agreed to ship me the correct length bolts, but they didn't arrive before we had to leave on our trip. I used a Grade-8 dry bolt from a local trailer shop as a temporary remedy, along with the cams from Lippert.

The second set of bolts from Lippert were correct, but the dry bolt held up well on our trip, so I'm just putting the new bolts, bushings, nuts & cams aside for now. Will take them along on the next trip as emergency repair spares.

The problem with the dry bolts is the bushing wear out much faster and need to be replaced a whole lot sooner than the wet bolt system. Keep an eye on those bushing because they will elongate or wear the spring ends and then it's new springs also.
