I'm curious if you tried to log on to the state website for the renewal. Seems to me they could add a box - I certify that the trailer passes inspection - that takes the place of the form that says the same thing.

Keep us posted. Waiting in line at the County Tax office is far better than dragging the RV out of storage to wait in line at the inspection station (sometimes for an hour or so) to have my lights checked (which I did when I hooked up...) and then take it back to storage. What a pain.

Ours isn't due till Mar next year and that will be the last one!!

I clicked around on Texas.gov and finally found this checklist of items to be checked for a trailer/RV...its a good list.

About time they got rid of the vehicle inspections

While inspections may have safety value, the Texas method was not good for the state, the inspectors, or the owner. Why would an inspection station do a good job when only getting paid $7.50 for the work. With most repair shops getting $160 per hour labor, they were paid for less than 3 minutes. Typing your info into the computer system took longer than that. I also hated hooking up in storage just to pull it somewhere to get rubber stamped.

We moved from Converse to Florida two years ago. Here my plates are $36 with no inspection. However, they got a lot more out of me for the TV. No inspections though.

Mike, I just did my wife’s car a couple of weeks ago here in Georgetown. I was surprised that the office was even open as about half of the time they are “Closed for training”. It only took an hour and a half waiting to hand the clerk my paperwork and check and leave. It only takes me 10 minutes to get to Crestview from here and I drink several cups of their coffee while waiting. Also on my registration form from the state they charged me an inspection fee….not sure how to handle that if I mail it in.

I was in the Georgetown office yesterday afternoon to register a car we bought from a friend. Pulled my ticket number at 2:50 and walked out at 4:30.

Inspection fee? I did not notice whether that was on my bill in January. I just paid what they said.

I’m 18 minutes southeast of Crestview RV. I used to take the Monte there for inspection.

HEB took our VTR form, renewal from TX, insurance paperwork and our check. Had to go to the "back" office to get the OK. And we were out of the store in about 10 minutes. SO--we did check the Monty. Ready for a few more "get ready to go" tasks before the summer RVing!

Thanks for that info! Glad to hear that I don’t have to go to the county office again.
