Thetford Toilet

I have a Aqua Magic Style II Thetford Toilet in our RV and I am having issues with the waste ball closing after releasing the pedal. It closes part way, but not all the way, so the water keeps running into the holding tank. Could be a major issue.I have replaced the blade seal and have been using silicone water proof grease on the ball. The grease helps but after a couple days it starts acting up again. Does the water pressure have anything to do with assisting the ball to close? Has anyone else had this issue, and if so what was done to fix this issue?

Fixed our Thetford toilet by depositing it in a dumpster and installing a Dometic 310 toilet.

I know others have had issues with the Thetford, but ours has worked well since new in 2016. It sometimes goes through short periods when it won,t hold water but a cleaning with a toitet brush in the hole with the ball open usually cures that. I had the same issue in our last Montana that had a Dometic in it. We use the trailer about 5 months a year.

Good video if you have to replace the pedal assembly.

On all three of our Montana's we replaced the Tetford with a Dometic and had no probems after that.

We had a very similar problem with our Thetford so I will share my experience. The big difference is that our fifth-wheel is 15 years old and that problem only developed this past Summer. We are not full-timers but we have logged 111,500 miles in this trailer.

Since the Thetford had served well over 15 years and we likely will not have this trailer much longer, we just decided on a direct replacement. I ordered it from Amazon and did all the work myself. This is not a recommendation for anyone else, but it was the easiest and least expensive thing for me.

* by "direct replacement" I mean the exact model of Thetford that came with our trailer when we bought it new.
