Follow up questions now that I have purchased one

I’ve contacted Keystone in regards to the Anderson hitch. I was told that the Anderson hitch COULD void out your warranty IF you have problems, like frame damage in the front of the 5th wheel, so I opted to stay with the traditional 5th wheel hitch.

we have used our Anderson Hitch for 5 years now. Have a 40 ft Montana Legacy. Zero issues. We love it. Pull over the Sierras and the Rockies 2 times a year.
Pulling with GMC 3500.

Anderson will warranty your trailer frame for any damage from their hitch.

If you want to keep your truck bed for use as a truck bed, there's another way. Look at the Reese Goosebox. I have attached an email reply from Keystone Customer Service that can put to rest much of the warranty questions. There's a group on Facebook with lots of info and positive reviews.

Not to be Danny Downer but I noticed you have a shortbed. I don't know if your sb is as short as my ram megacab, but the hitch did not allow enough clearance between cab and trailer in 90 degree turn. Personally, the auto slide by pull rite may be a consideration. When you need the bed, just unhitch the hitch from the truck and use the trailer to left the hitch and then move the truck.

I know the odds are in your favor under normal circumstances, but put in a panic situation I'd prefer the peace of mind knowing my hitch isn't going to buckle. Just my 2 cents....

I have seen the picture for years and it may or may not be a structural failure. I have an Andersen Ultimate mounted on a Reese Rail to the pucks on a Ram 3500 LB. It is not aluminum and does not connect to the goose ball. My hitch is made of steel. It is heavier than the Ultimate 3200 pictured. I also have a letter from Keystone saying they would honor the warranty. Andersen has a warranty that covers any damage as well. The Keystone dealer that sold me the 5th wheel sold and installed the hitch 4 years ago.

We looked at all the options when we bought our 5th wheel and went with a Reese Goose Box with a B&W roll over ball hitch. We love it. Ours is a 16000 LB hitch with 12,500 LB trailer.

My 2 pennies
On my HDT I went with an Air Safe slider which was reconfigured to move 3ft. Did this so the HDT could haul a side by side and 2 quads on the deck when attached to the toyhauler. Went with the Air Safe as it included the air ride capability; all the chatter about an HDT causing frame damage if run without cushion was my reasoning.

On the little trucks (Ram mega and GMC short box) went the B&W Turnover with Companion slider. Did this to have an empty box and I needed a slider (mega and short box). The B&W was really built well but very heavy.

If I didn't need a slider I would absolutely go Anderson. The ease of removal alone would be the worth the hassle of using their warranty if it was ever needed.

My recommendation, swap (put in and out of a pickup) a tradition 5th wheel hitch then swap an Anderson, use that to decide which is for you, both have trade offs.

I have an 3160RL, 2017 and the Anderson hitch. I've pulled it over different terrain and highways, never had an issue. It's light to get out of the bed of the truck, 48 lbs.

A couple of tips: Tighten the bolt on top, that secures it to the bed, then connect your 5th Wheel, retighten the bolt on top to specifications and then tighten the side bolts.

Check them periodically.

I have a rubber bed mat in my 3500HD and so I check it a couple of times, at beginning of trip, and periodically thereafter. NOTE: You have to loosen the side bolts to tighten the top bolt, then retighten the side bolts.

Blue Ox has a new hitch for 5th wheels, I bought one and I think it's just as good as the Goosebox I had in the last 2 5th wheels we've owned. It's the BXR2100. It fully encloses the king pin, it weighs 122lbs assembled but can be broken down into two pieces. Mine mounts to the Goose neck connector so I don't have to have rails in the truck.

We had the Pullrite version of the Anderson (only all steel). We were buying our new unit at the same time we were having frame flex. We switched to the 1P Pullrite fifth wheel hitch after reading Lippert’s letter. You have enough info to make an informed decision. I would not look for Montana/Lippert help with frame flex after the service date in the letter. As for availability, Amazon has them all.

One consideration the factory-installed hitch carries the new car warranty with it. If you run over a curb and over torque it you will get a new one. Two pieces to take it out. But still pretty heavy. I bought a bumper crane will lift 300 lbs. Also good for lifting generator

I used an Anderson hitch for the first few years of ownership on our 2019 Montana and I will not bad mouth it one bit. The only reason I went to a Reese Goosebox, was I did not want any headaches with any warranty work, should that arise.
