Experimenting w/ 170 Deg Hinge for Switch Door

Experimenting with Blum 170 degree hinges so the switch panel door can open almost parallel to the wall. Since the hinge protrudes into the cabinet more, tried it on the mini closet door below the switch door.

Conceptually it works but the main challenge is that the hinges need a 2 5/8 inch cabinet depth to work. Options so far could be to cut 1 1/2 x 1 1/8 holes in the switch panel so the hinge can protrude past it, deepen the cabinet to 2 5/8 inches, or possibly cut the hinge to work with a shallow cabinet, (or just remember to close the door and live with it). A lesser challenge is that the Blum screw holes for the frame don’t line up with factory hinge mounts and the factory mount for the round part in the door uses plastic plugs. The plugs line up with the Blum but cause them to stick out about 1/32 inch - I think they can be shimmed to work with the plugs.

Any thoughts/ideas would be welcome.

Thank you.

I was just looking into the exact same thing, can’t tell you how many times my wife and I have hit our heads/shoulders on that door, stupid design, but had the same issues as you when I bought a 170 hindge. My wife is about ready to just remove the door entirely. Hoping that someone on this forum has a better solution.
