Hydraulics in Avalanche fifthwheel

My jacks raise and lower individually now instead of in pairs. Likewise, my opposing hydraulic slideouts operate individually now rather than together: is this caused by a low hydraulic fluid level?

Brian,

That is not unusual. My jacks and slides often move individually. Other than not moving together are they working?

My jacks and slides have moved independently since the rig was new! no issues with that, the easiest moving element moves first.

Cold temperatures can make the hydraulic fluid thick and things not work like you are used to.

Check your fluid levels. IF it is low you can add some anti-stiction fluid per Lippert TSB to help take popping noise out of your jacks.

The Lippert TSB is in the Lippert NOW app
Or download it from the files section.

Another thing you can find in the app is Lippert TSB regarding putting the hydraulic system on its own 80A circuit breaker. This is also in the files section. What happens is, the way its wired, it goes through 50A red self-resetting circuit breakers. The hydraulic pump can pull 80A. This causes the red self-resetting CBs to pop. After a minute they reset. Rinse repeat. Very frustrating. This is especially true in cold weather (thick hydraulic fluid).

I'll side with all above ... in cold weather, your hydraulic slides will act differently depending on the day. There are no sequencer valves in our hydraulic systems. The cylinders act on a basic hydraulic principle of the slide or jack with the least resistance moves first.

OP likely doesn't have the Lippert levelers. Probably Equalizer. Could still be as suggested above but they are known to have their own glitches.

[QUOTE=AZ Traveler;1266401]Brian,

Thank you.

They are working but I noticed one jack is not fully retracted. The next time I visit I plan to extend and retract fully, which will be Monday.
I keep my rig in a storage facility.

Rollo - I recently had issues with my drivers side rear hydraulic jacks "falling" (not staying up after I had retracted them...they dont really FALL rather they slowly ease down 1" - 3"). The rig had been sitting for most of a year and I did not "exercise" the jacks a few times to keep the system working correctly. It turns out I must have had a "bubble" in the system and it allows the jacks to come down rather than stay up.

As suggested by the experts here - I cycled all jacks 5 to 7 times...UP and down. It cured my issue.

Thanks.
Yes. I haven't had the rig long. We leave Monday on a eight-day trip. I hope the jacks don't lower on the road. One is six inches above the ground since we returned three weeks ago. I plan to raise and lower them a few times as suggested.

I was told to put them thru 5 to 7 cycles…
Put the lippert control screen in MANUAL and push RIGHT and LEFT until they touch the ground…then push RETRACT and RIGHT then LEFT until they are all the way up. Then push REAR (all 4 will move) until they touch the ground…then RETRACT and push REAR. Do this 5-7 times. If you are hooked up to the truck - run the front jacks up and down a few times. Then retract all the REAR all the way up and walk away and see if they stay up. Have you checked all of your hose connections for leaks? Do you see evidence of a leak on any of your feet pads?

AGAIN...OP might not even have a Lippert system. Can the OP confirm? Newer Avalanches have Equalizer systems. May be similar in troubleshooting but they are known to be glitchier than Lippert.

Rollo - please post your year and model so you can get advice on the correct system.
