Until you are sure of the new info you received I would error on the side of caution and buy the slider. As I stated earlier mine is heavier to move but gives me peace of mind when I am traveling. That peace of mind is worth it's weight In gold.

All can say is we purchased a 2020 Silverado 2500 shortbed (6' 6") and a 2020 3121RL. GM had redesigned the Silverado that year (I assume the GMC as well) which resulted in a few inches less between the rear bumper and the axle. The means the 5th wheel is located a few inches further back away from the cab. At the time (late 2019) no one could advise if we would have issues with 90 degree turns so we went with a Pullright 2900 sliding hitch. A great product, but it turns out the sliding feature was not needed. There is plenty of clearance between the trailer and the cab. The construction of the slider results in a 200 plus pound weight to be handled when installing/ removing it. My advise is go with lighter weight fixed hitch.

My dealership (in 2016) told me he wouldn't make hitch recommendations for all the possible combinations. I understand your hesitation. I chose not to get a slider for my short bed TV, and I didn't need one, until I did. The front of the fiver kissed the corner of the TV when I did an off-camber sharp turn at a gas station. I ordered an auto-slider and can get 90 degrees if I have to, and no more worries.

WRT your dealer telling you about a lengthened pinbox, perhaps you can get the model number off the box. I'm guessing they're using the same Mor-Ryde box, but maybe they're mounted it more forward on the frame.

Sorry, but what is "WRT"? I will see if I can get the model number and it is a road armor box which I believe is made by Lippert.

If it's a road armor pinbox, my comment that it might be a Mor-Ryde pinbox won't apply. I don't know the road armor specs.

With my 2018 Silverado 3500 SB and out 2012 3750FL with the MorRyde hitch, I didn't need the slide hitch. When we purchased our 2021 3791RD with the Road Armor hitch, we needed it. Of course we found out the hard way. I can't speak to any other combination than what I had and I suspect most also cannot.
If you already own a hitch, you may be able to purchase the parts to convert it from a non-slider to a slider. That is the route I went. It was MUCH less expensive than purchasing an entire new hitch. If you have to purchase the hitch anyways, its not a lot more. Good luck!

Or you could just do what I have always done…don’t crank the thing to 90 degrees!

A b&w non slider has a hitch head that mounts to its base. It is adjustable up and down, fore and aft. Mine is set to a position that is a bit back from center and have no problems. If it needed more cab clearance it could be moved back even further. IMO, sliders can be ok but with more moving parts could be a source of looseness as they wear. At least the one I had did.

I was pretty set on getting a slider until talking to the dealer selling us the fiver who said that we wouldn't need it...According to the dealer, aside from changes in the new trucks, Keystone has lengthened the pin box. So the longer pin box along with the trimming of the corners on the trailer eliminates the need for the slider.

I have also found several comments on etrailer from folks who purchased a B&W (non-slider) and have had no issues. Only problem is they didn't say what trailer they were hauling.

I am pretty confused at this point as there doesn't seem to be agreement in this area, mostly because there are a lot of possible combinations. I don't want to buy a fixed hitch and regret it so I guess I am still leaning toward the auto-slider, maybe a pullrite.

I would have loved a pullrite but the 4500 is out of stock with no expected delivery date. Even though Keystone uses Max Turn tech, I decides better to be safe the sorry so I ended up with a Demco slide.

My first 5th wheel I bought one, because I had zero experience towing. In the 10 years of owning that first 5th wheel, I only used the slider once. Now that I know what I'm doing, I did not buy a slider, and I have the same truck and truck bed length as you have.

Trying to figure out what frame the new fifth wheel has. We have a 3121RL on order, what Lippert frame does it come with? Where do I find that information? Looking to purchase the Reese Goosebox but need to know what frame the trailer comes with. Thanks

On these newer Montanas that have different pin boxes. Couldn't you measure from the pin out to the front corners of the rig. Then take that and measure from the center of the rear axle to the back of the pickup cab. Then allow for maybe 3 inches extra if you are on uneven ground. Then you would know whether you need a slider. Just an idea.............

The maiden voyage was last weekend. A short trip to a delta with full hookup. Overall a success! Got a laundry list of minor repairs but overall very happy. Got 10 MPG and the rig pulled well. Did have a very loud pop at the hitch when leaving the park. That's a bit concerning. What lube plate would be recommended for the Demco hitch?
