Anyone stayed near Detroit and visited the Ford Museum? I searched and about the best I found was a fairgrounds about 20 miles west. Thoughts?

When you say ford museum do you mean the Henry ford museum, green field village, or the river rouge factory tour?

There are a lot of nice campgrounds in the area but you will have to drive about half an hour to visit or more.

When we visited the Ford Museum a few years ago we stayed at a campground that I THINK is owned by the city of Dearborn but I can't remember the name but would use it again and I don't recall it being a bad drive. Google is your friend! Museum was very nice.

The city of Dearborn owns one campground but it’s not in Dearborn it’s in Milford mi and called Camp Dearborn. It’s about a 40 minute drive to the Henry Ford or Greenfield Village.

I’ve never stayed there but I have driven past many times. It’s right next to willow run airport a bunch of stores and I-94. Rates are cheap but I’d prefer to stay elsewhere.

That's the one. I guess we were having so much fun that I didn't even notice the 40 minute drive. It was worth it though!

We stayed at Camp Dearborn campground. It was a 30-40 minute drive, depending on the time of day. We went to the Ford Museum one day and went back to Greenfield Village the next day.

Try Haas Lake, camp Dearborn, or one of the Michigan state parks. It’s going to be a half hour to 45 min drive to the ford museum no matter which campground you stay at.

We live in the area and there really is nothing close. I would highly suggest Haas Lake - it is off of 96 expressway and there are shops all around the area - with a Walmart as well for quick pick up items you may need. I would stay away from the Detroit area for camping (not all areas are safe). Yes there is Camp Dearborn in Milford which is close by Haas Lake. You will definitely enjoy the Henry Ford Museum and surrounding attractions.

Oakland county campground off of 90 near Elgin. Far enough out to be nice and safe.

We spent 2-1/2 days seeing The Henry Ford museum, 2 days at Dearborn Village and one morning at the Rouge Factory tour. Would highly recommend it. Take your time if you want to see it all. We stayed at William C. Sterling State Park south of Detroit. The sites have a little space between them. We had full hookups. It's nice if you are coming in from the south then you don't have to haul the rig into traffic. Have fun!

Here's our Favorite

Detroit / Ann Arbor KOA Holiday! This campground is on Ypsilanti and it was not a KOA when we first started going there. Only problem is they are closed until March I think. The staff is awesome.

Try the Ypsilanti, MI KOA. New owners, many improvements. We stayed there several years ago to visit The Henry Ford before it changed hands and rejoined the KOA tribe. Be sure and take to tour of the Rouge plant as part of the Ford Museum. https://koa.com/campgrounds/detroit/

We stayed at the Wayne County fairgrounds campground last June. Nothing fancy but certainly friendly and good FHU sites. About 25 minutes to visit the Ford Museum.

the fairgrounds are fine...if it is dry! if rainy season the mud is everywhere...got stuck there last time.
but the above places have been mentioned that will work....just depends on how you want to drive.

We stayed in Fowlerville at the county fairgrounds. It was nice and inexpensive.
