Tow Vehicle Replacement Tire Recommendations??

I have read the recent post on Michelin tires for tow vehicle and am looking for recommendations or opinions on additional quality brands for comparison.

I have 2020 SRW 3500 ram which came with 18" Firestone Transforce tires. I have rotated every 7500 miles and they are toast at 38,900 miles. Maybe that is the norm or average for these tires while towing but it just seems they wore out faster than I expected???

Looking for reliable suggestions on an LT tire E rated upgrade for towing which allows for decent/increased highway towing miles yet has some dependable traction when needed???

Is 39,000 miles the average wear with most trucks towing these trailers????

Bought the Chevy in my signature February 2019, and I now have 61,000 miles on the OEM tires...about 9000 miles towing. My OEM tires are Michelin Primacy XC LT 235 80R17E with a date code of 3718 (Sept 2018). I have had them rotated 3 or 4 times. I have never had an alignment issue. I plan to get new tires (same Michelins) before Christmas - but these are still in good shape. I can almost see the top of Lincoln's head! I was looking at pricing online yesterday from Sams, Costco, Walmart and Discount Tire. I think I will go to my local Discount Tire in a few weeks.

I've never got more than 30-32k miles on a set of tires for my F350. That's with the factory Michelins or other brands. I'm not exactly easy on them with hard accelerations and heavy towing. I just settle on using the warranty and getting nearly half credit on new tires every 30k. I've run the Nitto Terra Grapplers 2s at Discount Tire. I have the LT295/65R20s that have a 4080# load rating and a 50k mileage warranty. I camp offroad a lot in sand, so the the all terrain tread works well. I routinely see 7600# on my rear axle of my truck with the Montana hooked up (3800# pin weight)

I currently have 38K on the OEM Michelins on my Dually (in signature) and 90 to 95 percent of that is towing heavy, like close to 20K. Still have a couple of years left on them.

Ok I have a question. Why do some people get twice the miles out of a set of tires as someone else?
I drive like I stole it. Really easy so no one will notice me. My F150 was getting 23.2 around town. My lie o meter is off by 4 to 5%. That is still over 20 MPG. I hear of people getting close to 100,000 on a set of tires on F150 and close to 70,000 on HD trucks.
I live on a tar and gravel road with several curves. Most people drive on nice smooth pavement. Could that be the difference?

Could be. Road conditions, driving habits, maintenance (rotates) I suppose all make a difference. I have bought 10 new pick up trucks for myself personally starting in 1976. Averaged between 225k and 260k miles on each one except the one previous to my present one because I retired. I don’t really ever remember getting less than 50k on a set of tires, most around 60k. They were all 3/4 ton or 1 ton and carried heavy loads and occasionally pulled various weight construction trailers. Current truck has Michelin LTX AT2. New they measured 15.5/32nds. They just measured 11/32nds, they have 21,000 miles on them, just under 7000 pulling Monty. They also should make 60k at this rate.

I rotate them, drive easy, start slowly, don’t exceed the speed limit, drive like I stole it. My F150 is getting better than 21 MPG. You don’t get that kind of mileage hot roding. I have the same tires on my F250 as you have. The only thing I can come up with is road conditions. Rough tar and graveled roads with lots of curves is the only thing I can think of. I’d love to get 60,000 miles out of a set of tires. Not going to happen.

We just bought new tires for dw’s car, Ford Edge original tires were Michelin Latitudes. 60,000 mile tire. They were toast at 30k. She drives very conservatively. During the shopping process I was told by a tire retailer that sometimes tire manufacturers supply bulk shipments of tires to auto manufacturers that are soft compounds for increased ride quality to help sell cars. First time I’ve heard that one. Also first time she has ever gone through tires in that little miles.

I have a similar truck, same tires. The poor mileage isn’t so much the tire as it is the truck. Rams eat tires. It’s the front end. If you drive it much, and tow some, there’s no stopping the wear. I’ve seen it on too many Rams. Lots of highway miles unloaded may change that to some degree. My Michelins, which I like a lot are up for replacement. On my truck it isn’t about looking for a tire that will last a long time, but more so be reliable.

I agree. My 2009 Ram is on its fourth set of tires, 3 of those sets being Michelin. (Twice generous on warranty replacement. Not quite as generous the third time.) About 40K is the max. Truck perfectly aligned and tires rotated. The current set is Saliums and they appear to be wearing about the same. According to my tire guy some trucks just eat tires. He thinks Rams are the worst but says he has customers with the same problem from the other 2 of the big 3 manufacturers.

I always ran with Michelin tire on my Ford and Chevy trucks but most recently went with Coopers and my lord what a difference. Tires are wearing much better and the ride is fabulous. Glad I have Cooper a try!!!!

Now that is funny.... I've heard both ways on the Cooper tires as far as wear. Good to hear you are getting good results. I did wind up putting a set of Coopers on a 2500 Ram a few years ago and the ride quality was a vast improvement over the OEM Firestone Transjunk tires, but traded the truck off before I could get a good read on extended tire wear.
Trivia for the day is Goodyear bought out Cooper.

It’s good to know I’m not the only person that doesn’t get 50,000 miles out of a set of tires.

Any good tire will get 50 to 60K miles on them. If you're a sane driver.

Both the OEM set of Michlens and its replacements (LTX AT2) had tread separation around 35K. The replacement set of Les Schwab equivalents (all that was available at the time) are at 20K and the tread looks like they might make 40K (if they don't suffer a tread separation before then) . But I run heavy on the rear axle.

We're all a bit crazy. Allow me to elaborate 50 to 60K with no trailer load and well paved surfaces. Quite frankly I don't tow as many miles as most of you retired world travelers. All my TV's get good tire mileage because up until mow the most weight I pulled was around 8000 lbs. I'm sure all of that changes with the Montana. However....my 2020 GMC only has 7K on it and all trailer mileage. The tires will age out before they wear out

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, as evidenced by many of your previous post. To imply that everybody who doesn't get your same results is not sane is a bit demeaning.
