Light Switch Relocation

Besides having rotator cuff issues that make "reaching up" uncomfortable.... I never liked having to open a cupboard to turn a light on. So I moved all of the inside light switches to the wall. I also switched the puck lights on either side the stove.

Made a blanking plate out of an old piece of plastic. Stuck on with 3M tape.

That was one of the very first modification I made in my High Country. The light switches were right in the middle of a bunch of other switches. And that door cabinet is really high.

I removed the back from inside the cabinet it was attached to, rewired the 2 switches for the house light and installed two new switches farther down the cabinet, within easy reach. I left the original switches in the box, and purchased 2 new switches from my RV dealership parts store. It was well worth it!

I also did the same thing with the light switch in the bathroom. The switch was right at the sink, but it was behind the pivot door. Really awkward to turn on.

I simply drilled a hole through the wall and disconnected the wire from the switch. I purchased a new switch and installed it in the hall way outside the bathroom. I left the original switch in place so it would cover the holes for the wires (and screws holding it in place). But it's disconnected. Now, when entering the bathroom, the switch is right beside the door in the hall with very easy access. No fumbling in the dark now.

Yep! It's another one of situations where the people who designed these campers probably never spent a single moment actually inside them!

I got that for my wife’s retirement. She’s a big fan of Maxine.

I haven’t seen one of those copper colored boxes inside the closet in the fourth picture for over 50 years. Is that an original or a replica? In case you don’t know what it is, it was made to hold a box of wooden matches. You would remove the outer sleeve from the box of matches then slide the box into the holder down from the top. Then the matches would automatically come out the bottom as they are used.

That’s the right side of the stovetop. It’s a replica.
