About TPMS Systems

quick question... as a newbie.. i'm wondering about tpms systems, and cost versus quality.

1. systems are all over the board in pricing.. from $50 on up.
2. the systems i see recommended are in the $300+ arena. is this due to reliability, length of transmitting, console, ...?

i'm just trying to get a grip on the differences between the units and their corresponding costs.

so... just tryin' figure all this out. i'm picking up my 3121 on the 16th, so i could pre-purchase the tpms and install it when i pick it up and doing my pdi.

i did a search.. so hope i'm not lol

This has been discussed a lot here but especially on the Keystone forum. You can probably find info by searching for "TPMS" in the search function above.

That said, I think that like any electronics you can find a broad range of products and prices. Sometimes a cheaper, off-brand solution can work. But it's usually the more expensive, tried-and-true solutions that get the larger following.

We used a Tire Minder TPMS for a couple seasons. I got tired of the many false alarms or disconnects. We upgraded to the TST 507 which I learned about here and seems to have the broadest following. So far it's been rock solid. That would be the system I would recommend.

I bought TST 507 system and used it for the first time on our recent 2 week trip. It worked great and gave me peace of mind while driving. I did get 3 alarms...the beeper goes off and the affected tire flashes the temperature and pressure. Each alarm showed something like 320* but normal pressure. I pinged this forum group with a question about "phantom alarms" and the most likely culprit in my case is that I have an atomic clock sensor mounted in both propane closets (one clock is in the front bath and the other is in the living room). The alarms are scary at first - but when I saw the ridiculous temperature flashing I silenced the alarm. For the first one I turned the monitor off and on and it came back with normal readings. For the last two I just silenced the alarm and after a few minutes it resumed normal readings.

Like DQDick stated - I think I will be able to use this system for many years. I think it is well worth the cost.

Another pleased TST 507 user here. But friends have other systems they like. My only complaint about the TST system is the color screen is hard to see in sunlight. I now mount it off the sunroof (and then close the cover) to get it into more shade.

We had the TST507 for 10-12 years. Never got any alarms for temp or pressure. Never had a low tire an alarm. Did occasionally lose signal to a sensor or two until I added the repeater.

TST is the overwhelming choice of the people we know. Great quality, continual improvements and great customer service. We have been using TST since 2010.

Ron I would check but I believe all the new Montanas come with TST system already installed on your rig. So no need to buy one. TST is a good TPMS that is what I run and love it

I also have the TST system. I bought it and took it with us and installed it during the PDI of our 2021 3121. It was having a little trouble keeping track of one tire so when we stopped to run across a CAT scale, I hooked up the repeater by just attaching the wires to the trailer batteries and zip tied it to one of the hydraulic lines on the pump. Flawless the rest of the way home.
Ended up mounting the repeater to the inside front wall above the door to the battery bay.
If you choose the TST, just hook up the repeater from the get-go and be done with it.
It works great.

I have an older TST 507. I had false alarms at several stops. Company said the newer ones had a different coding or such and would cause this. Said I probably drove by one as I entered campground. And it was very sporadic, so I think they are right. Maybe something similar happens with the new ones too????

Another 10 year happy TST owner. You will probably need the system and a repeater if a trailer is in the 35 feet and up range. Low buck systems are just not worth the aggravation when you have a tried and proven product like TST. There are others that may work well too, but a 65+mph tire blowout to me wasn't worth the potentially costly experiment. TST customer service has been good as well when I had questions along with a warranty repair on a sender.

I also use the TST507 system and like it. I bought it based on conversations I read here on this forum and a couple of YT videos. Only additional thing I'd mention is they have great customer support. The mounting bracket stripped and stopped tightening last year and they sent me another one free of charge. Then this summer I started having one sensor start loosing connection, called them and their level 3 support walked me thru a number of checks then we determined the sensor itself was faulty. I returned it and they sent me a new one free of charge.

yes.. they do.. but i'm getting a 2021.. so not availiable unless an option. thanks though...!

Nope, not an option from the factory on the 2021's. Standard equipt now on the 2022's. Check with your dealer, they may offer some kind of discount for a year in their store with each new RV purchase, you never know. Our dealer did, but unfortunately, at their regular price, even after the discount, several things I wanted were cheaper on line. including the TST. Good luck with the new trailer.
