Smoke/propane/carbon monoxide Detectors

One thing we often overlook is the detectors on our trailers. I went to replace the batteries in my carbon monoxide detector the other day and noticed that it had an end of life sticker dated 2017. This caused me to start checking the propane and smoke detectors all of which were end of life. I ordered all three items and will be installing them next week before we head out for summer outings.

Effective life on all three detectors is 5-7 years per most manufacturers and $70 is nothing compared to any potential loss of life.

Be safe everyone and have a good summer.

I think the propane detectors list a 5 year expectancy. Mine started beeping some special signal when it was about done, if I remember correctly. And the newer monoxide and smoke detectors don't have replaceable batteries either. So instead of putting in a 2 or $3 battery, you go buy the whole thing for $20. MAkes sense - for the manufacturer!!

Yep, our Propane detector decided to let us know it was past it's end of life date, not bad as it lasted 7 years. Got a replacement thru Home Depot as they had the best price.

I went online to and ordered exact replacements for my carbon monoxide and smoke alarms from through my local Lowe's Home Improvement store. The item numbers are 3209663 for the CO alarm (model # 1039885) and 3209662 (model # 1039883) for the smoke alarm, both of them use 9 volt batteries and are approved for RVs. Together the run about $35 and take about 5-6 days to arrive at your local store.

Amazon had the best price for the Propane alarm.
