Good Rig Height Comparison

Stopped at a rest area for picnic lunch. A good visual showing just how tall our rigs really are.

Bedroom window is open for the cat. Only while we're stopped. She rides in the truck when we're on the road.

Easy to overlook the fact these things are as tall as the big rigs.

This kind of thing absolutely astonishes me. This guy even had an idea it was too tall but just slowed down.

Oh contraire'.... They are among us.

Maybe he or she was arguing with their navigation system at the time. I argue with mine so much that I had the DW change the voice system from female to male..... Didn't help DW snickers about it a lot though

That's a great picture for comparison. We live in Virginia Beach and we constantly tow through the HRBT or the CBBT (tunnels). When I am meeting tractor trailers, I often comment to my wife that they look really close to the ceiling in the tunnel and wonder how close our AC units are to the ceiling as well. This picture puts in in perspective for me.

That has been my biggest complaint with our unit since we purchased it. They are absolutely too tall. With our preferred camping style, I will not own another camper over 13' tall. It will be the first and foremost of all criteria.

I've been watching some YouTube dumb drivers.... It amazes me how stupid some people are. Maybe we need a license to tow? You need a endorsement to ride a motorcycle but no to tow a 40' fifth wheel?

Some states do require a special license for any RV with a weight rating over 26,001 lbs or towing a combined weight rating over 26,001 lbs. That pretty much covers any larger 5er. For Texas that is a class A non commercial license with additional testing requirements. But I doubt that weeds out many of those with a lack of common sense.

Hey Tony, yu live in CA. Surely you know an endorsement (Restriction 41) is required to tow a 5th wheel over 10K lbs? And over 15K you are in the non-commercial Class A license area. Neither of which keeps idiots from trying to tow tall trailers through short tunnels/bridges.

Florida has virtually no special requirements to pull a tall, heavy 5er. Something I find a bit scary. We have seen some really bonehead maneuvers in our almost 5 years of FTing.

Putting them into stuff has been the number one. Either by turning too early and putting the front into a pole or something or ignoring tailswing.

If I were teaching a class my entire lesson plan would be these kind of YouTube videos. Kudos to those that are willing to post them.

This one at about 4:50.

We are very height conscious. If the fuel canopy isn't labeled, or obviously high enough, my wife always gets out and checks. More than once we have pulled in just far enough to fuel and backed back out. Did it at a Valero off I80.. Diesel was just too reasonable to pass it up.

Definitely would not fit AC's and all. Came in from the south, hit the outside pump, backed out, and got back on the freeway.

There is also very low bridge under I87 in the Adirondacks of NY. 12'9" and you have no idea until you get off the exit. Stole the picture off Pinterest.

so I also had my MOMENT.....when I was a way rookie, pulling in to a old school gas station, I didn't read the warning of a 12 foot height, wife is screaming at me to stop, and I paid a lot for this educational experience !! ....and I laugh at those whom have a "common sense experience"
