Montana broke
We broke our 2013 3402 Big Sky. This is the first major problem we have had with this unit. The RV was in our driveway where it always sits leveled up/ We pulled the slides in to move it back so we could clean and flush the holding tanks ,Moved it forward when finished auto leveled and when the kitchen slide tried to come in it made horrible grinding sounds. Inspection showed the front side was out about 6 inches the rear was flush. We noted the head assembly was bent and that is a big chunk of steel no other damage visible. Call to Lippert and they found us a Lippert certified slide repair shop 65 miles south of here where the Montana is now. When we attempted to run it in so we could move it there was more grinding sounds but the slide realigned itself. The shop will let us know what the damage is besides the head assembly. Cornerstone ESP has got it.

My first guess would be a broken shear bolt in the drive line to the back gear pack/drive, The shear pin is easy, the metal bracket not so much.
But isn't a good extended warranty nice to have?

We had a failed gear pack on our rear road side slide, due the rig being torqued when entering the FIL’s driveway. I ordered new gear packs, along with 18 tooth gears, because our rig was pre-15 tooth gear packs, and the only way they sell gear packs is with 15 tooth gears. If the gear is actually broken instead of the problem being a broken shear bolt, you can just buy the gears, grind the roll pin off of the old gear pack assembly and replace the broken gear, then just reinstall the gear pack. You will need to make sure the slide is fully extended so both ends are synchronized. I just use a bottle jack under the end of the square tube that has the rack teeth and lift until the gear pack has the weight off of it. Then it’s just unbolting the old gear pack, but going back, you need to get the slide fully extended at both ends.

Cornerstone ESP approved all parts and 3 1/2 hours labor. Lippert says they will ship all parts tomorrow .It will still cost us a couple of hundred in deductible and State Taxes. We may still make Florida on time.

In hope to avoid such issues, I keep the gear packs and any moving parts under the slides well lubed with slide lube.

Ours is in a Lippert certified repair facility. We were notified today that the Montana should be ready Monday. Cornerstone allowed 3 1/2 hours labor .Plenty of time says the shop.

We put the slide about 22 inches out on both sides measured from the edge of the slide to the outer wall. It really didn't take long.. two bolts for each wheel assembly and one for he connecting rod.. we had to sawmill one bolt out because it just would turn... Then we had the RR leaf spring bolt shear off...

I have a 2018 Montana 3721RL which is only a year old. After about 8 months we had a slide issue. During the adventure I ran across a comment within the Lippert slide manual that specifically says do not lube the slide rails, only oil 4 specified points of the gear pack drive shaft. I asked the CW Shop Mgr and he said he was unaware of such. I inquired with Lippert and they confirmed. Up til now I had always sprayed the slide rails down with the slide spray lube.

We got two of those from loppers overnighted... Dealer wanted 8 hours labor at 150 per hour. Did it with the camp host in 1 hour..... Good Grief...
