Help or suggestions needed

I have a close friend that is in need of help or suggestions. He is in Alaska and has had a medical emergency and must fly back to the Lower 48 for care and treatment. His Montana is in Anchorage and he is trying to figure out how to get it back down to the Lower 48. The MOC community has always come up with ideas and suggestions for others in need of help and I thought I'd post here to see if we can figure something out to help a fellow MOC member in need.

Please post here if you have any suggestions! Thank you in advance!

Rondo - RVs don't drive themselves to Alaska to be sold at dealerships - so he needs to call RV dealers and get names of transporters. I was surprised to see that there are not many RV dealers in Alaska, but it makes sense. I searched statewide - most are in the Juneau area with a few in Fairbanks.

Can't help him, but for others there are several companies, MASA and SkyMed that are designed to help in those types of cases.

Won't help him now but he needs join FMCA as they will transport him (via air if needed)wherever he needs to go for care and then his RV and family including animals. It's like $50/year with air transport included. Much better $ than SkyMed.

In this case, neither would help. For MASA to kick in you need to be hospitalized at least 24 hours, and I am sure FMCA is the same. Disappointing to say the least.

Here is one possibility.

https://www.totemaritime.com/alaska/vehicles-rvs-boats

I would think new RVs are shipped to Alaska rather than driven or towed. So finding someone to tow one back may be difficult.

Selling it may be a viable option?

I've had a car transported to CA and friends that have done similar to and from other states including HI. Try googling RV transport Alaska" or something like that. Here's one that came up. You might also use Yelp or Google to look-up reviews.

One of us retired folks with time on our hands could fly up and drive the rig back, *IF* the truck is still there. There are some logistics to work out but it is doable if the owner really wants the combo back home.

One of us "retired folks" just happens to be doing that Carl. We are flying out tomorrow afternoon and getting into Anchorage about 7 PM tomorrow night. We will be driving his truck and rig back to the middle of the Lower 48 to take some of the stress off of him and his medical ordeal.

Thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions and he definitely appreciates all of your responses.

Oh by the way, to ship the truck and rig back via cargo ship would have run him $13,000. Now I know how they pay for all that fuel they burn.

Take care folks and wish us luck on our travels back to the Lower 48! We will keep everyone informed on how the journey is going. And thanks again for all the suggestions.

Will there be any issues crossing the border with a truck and trailer that you don’t legally own? Perhaps a notorized letter giving you permission to transport the vehicle may be in order.

Ron and Mary are truly good friends. The owner of the RV dealership personally called drivers. The people that buy on price alone won’t get that kind of service. Ron and Mary also introduced several of us to Leach Camper in Omaha. Within 24 hours, flights were arranged, transport was decided and doctors arranged. The MOC is what keeps us in Montanas. We also met another Montana couple that also pitched in. And the Federal Game and Fish allowed all three rigs to park for two nights in a non camping area after explaining the need. Lots of good folks still in this world. No, it isn’t me, but we’ve been in the middle of it.
