Water heater drain plug........
Atwood water heaters??? Is anyone using a metal drain plug for their water heater? Really don't like the plastic type, have to replace them to ofter. The plastic becomes brittle and break off.
Yesterday when we returned from being out of town for a couple of days. The plastic drain plug was leaking, went to replace it and of course it broke off the head. Really had fun getting it out. So if you happen to have the metal type, were did you find it. GBY...

Delaine and Lindy,
Been a while since I've actually seen the drain plug used on the water heater. I think all of the 10 gal heaters on the Montana use the anode rod as the drain. Must be different on your 12 gal.
A few years ago I did replace the plastic one on our Fleetwood with a metal one that had a valve built in to it, so I didn't have to pull the plug. I think I got it at Camping World.

Question? We have a 2955 06 Montana. Our anode rod on our water heater needs to be replaced. We have a local camper place, Forest River campers, that has told us to replace it with just a plug - it is all we need on it. We do not drink the water or use it for cooking. Does anyone have any info on this information. Thanks.

Silver,
You'll want to replace that anode, it's actually called a sacrificial anode and it's job is to deteriorate so your water heater will not. Don't listen to this supplier just buy an plug WITH anode at CW or almost any RV parts house.

Silverbird, If your WH is a Suburban brand (metal lined) you need the anode rod. If it's an Atwood brand (fiberglass lined) you don't. I suppose an anode rod may have been added to an Atwood by a previous owner or previous service. In that case you would only need a plug as recommended. But if it is indeed a Suburban, then you should NEVER believe anything else the person at Forest Ridge Cmpers tells you. If it was an employee (rather than the owner), then management needs to be made aware of his lack of knowledge as they may be liable for damage due to ill advise from an "expert".

That must be the difference if that 12 gal in the Cambridge is an Atwood, and the Montana uses Suburban.

While at our dealer buying a replacement annode rod, I was told to use up the original as much as practicable, as it was superior to the replacement rods. Different composition maybe? Anyway, his advice was to use it until the wires were exposed near the plug.

Don't be like me though, I purchased two anode rods last year as spares and I don't know where I "hid" them. I think I have CRS.

I'll tell ya's, not much on trailers frustrates or ticks me off more....than the placement of the freakin' plug for the water heater. With all the technology out there, do they honestly want us to believe they can't come up with a better placement for the plug??? Man I hate dealing with those!!
