Corroded rim

I just returned from a 7 day trip. My tire pressure held up just fine to the destination 500 miles away. I stayed there for 6 days. When I started out for my return trip I saw I had lost 8 pds of pressure. I didn’t lose any additional pressure on the return trip. The RV sat in my driveway for 2 days and I lost 8 more pds of pressure.

I just picked up the repaired tire and was told by my trusted tire company that they repaired a corroded rim. I had never heard of that. The wheels on my RV
are 10 years old.

1. Is this common?
2. Is repairing a fairly routine and safe procedure?
3. Should I be looking into buying new rims?
