Safe

Hi, we just got our new to us fifth wheel. It is a Montana legacy 2019/ 20th anniversary 42 foot and the manual shows that it has a safe but we cannot find it. Does anybody know where it would be . Model 3931
We looked all over and are beginning to think ours doesn’t have one but would like to know where it should be.
Thank you so much!

I don't know when they stopped installing safes (or what they laughingly referred to as a safe) but ours was under the bed. Lift up the platform and check there.

Carl n Susan -

Would I be out of line to ask how big your safe is and how did you install it? We have one, but just don't know where to install it .... we have a 2020 3790RD

Ours was installed in the front right corner (as you are looking at the bed). It is approx. 12" x 8" x 3" (deep). It is little more than a tin box but enough to deter the average crook.

We bought a fire safe just for documents we travel with.
It's in the closet.
There is another compartment under the head of the bed. It's a little less convenient to get to.
You have to move the mattress to the dresser before you can open it. We store long term things in there. Christmas decorations etc.

Can't find it? That's what makes it safe.
Had one in our previous SOB. It was in the floor of the B/R closet.
Like Carl said, just a tin box with a lock that took the key that everyone has. I think the fact that no one would likely know it's there is why it was in any way secure.

I made a safe for my camper. Most cabinets have about a 3 inch space over the cabinet frame. I put a false top in a bedroom cabinet. I screwed a piece of 1.5 wood with deep grove in the back side and two springs and a 1.5 inch piece of wood with a shallow grove on the front side. Leave about 3/4 inch of wood to hold the false top in put two small finger holes in the front to open it. If someone looks up in the cabinet they see the false top and will have no reason to try to open it.

Camping Farmer, if yours was previously owned, the old owners probably just kept it. We did with one of our old ones. It’s just a simple cheap key lock box. This is similar. https://a.co/d/9PsVAk5
