New to the Montana family

That’s a pretty heavy unit. What truck do you plan to haul it with?

A truck is the next item on the list. We did things in reverse so we could make sure the truck would fit the camper. I’m looking at a Chevy Z71 2500HD 6.6L Duramax diesel with Allison transmission 4 WD and 470HP. My camper is 16,000 LBS fully loaded and the truck has a capacity of 19,100 LBS

19,100 Towing capacity yes, but not cargo/carry capacity. 16,000 Lb camper can have a pin weight of approx 3200 Lbs, check the sticker on the door pillar to see what the cargo capacity is for that truck. You'll probably find you need at least a 3500 and one with training wheels is even better.

A 2500 is not enough truck for the payload. Get a 3500 SRW minimum. The cost difference is negligible. You will be glad you did the right thing.

We are Chris & Nancy
We bought our third RV,a 3901Montana legacy January 10,2023. We tow with a Denali drw.
No issues there.
Does anyone have a light switch for the main kitchen lights?
We can only operate from phone or in command.
It is a pain!

If you are a Chevy guy (like me), definitely the Silverado 3500HD dually. Much more stable on long trips especially across country in very windy conditions.
The 6.6 duramax has the hp and torque to pull that beast in any of the trucks. I like having the bigger truck for stability. Keeps my blood pressure down.

First, congratulations and welcome to the MOC. We bought our first ever RV last year (3231CK) and also had to buy our very first truck ever. After much research and advice, went with an F350 (so similar to a GM 3500), after looking at all the data no way was I going to tow a 16K plus RV with a 2500. Also decided on DRW and yes not easy for city driving but I LOVE the stability on the road, don’t feel a thing when a Semi goes past me the other way on a 2-way road, best decision we made, would do it again.
Do the research and talk to people that have owned both SRW and DRW, which I did. Never spoke to a single person that wished they bought a SRW instead.

Yes, one ton minimum. Check the payload sticker on the truck and do the math. We just moved up to a dually and LOVE the smoother, more stable ride

Welcome to the MOC from a couple that winter on the north side of Atlanta.
So, you've learned the first lesson about towing and that is the truck dealers seem to know nothing about towing. You have gotten good advice here though. It's not what you can drag but what you can carry. The door sticker is the place to start and payload is the magic word. I have a 1 ton SRW but if doing it over would go with a dualy.

Welcome to the MOC family from northeast Texas!
You received some sage advice on needing a 3500 /F350 and preferably a dually. Pulled our MHC with a 2500 for 6 months out of necessity. Soonest possible went with a 3500 dually. No more pucker factor in a good crosswind as well as no more white knuckle syndrome.
